Volvo XC40 won the first ICOTY Premium Car Award 2019 while the XC60 is the runner-up in this category

Indian Car Of The Year is one of the prestigious awards in the automotive industry. Usually, the award includes a single category, which is the Indian Car Of the Year (ICOTY) but this time the jury has decided to expand the category with a Premium Car of the Year. The first India Premium Car Of The Year is Volvo XC40.

The XC40 is the entry-level SUV model of the brand and the compact SUV made its global debut in 2017 as it is the first product to be based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. Volvo is planning to assemble the model at its Bangalore plant and it is expected to drop the price.

Volvo XC40 measures 4,425 mm in length, 1863 mm width and 1652 height. The wheelbase of the SUV is 2702 mm. The XC40 continues the same design theme, which debuted in XC90 as the front get signature grille of Volvo along with LED headlamps and a new bumper. The tail lamps are also LEDs with a similar design from other Volvo models.

The XC40 is available in three different trims, which come with design tweaks like the different grille, alloy wheels and the company is also offering dual tone colour also. The interior continues the same design theme from new generation Volvo models and all-digital instrument cluster is offered as standard on all variants.

Volvo has loaded the entry-level SUV with lots of features like 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 13-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, panoramic sunroof, leather seats, wireless charging, powered tailgate, automatic headlamps, high-definition reverse camera and more.

The XC40 also comes with radar-based safety systems like lane keeping assist, front collision mitigation support and more. Currently, the company is offering only one engine option with XC40 and it is the 2.0 L diesel engine producing 190 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque, mated to the 8-speed gearbox with five driving modes – Eco, Comfort, Dynamic, Off-Road and Individual.
