Volvo S90 bookings Open in India; will be the first car to boast radar based safety features
Volvo Auto India Pvt Ltd has started accepting pre-launch bookings for its S90 luxury sedan. The flagship Volvo sedan is expected to launch in India in September this year. Once launched, it will take on the rivals like Mercedes Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series. Interestingly, this is going to be the first car in the country equipped with radar based safety features.
The Volvo S90 is the replacement of S80, and it has been designed in a very stylish manner following the SPA architecture. The luxury sedan features ‘Thor’s Hammer’ designed LED headlamps, vertically slated aggressive looking large front grill and wide air intake at the front. The side profile boasts a coupe like roofline which enhances the appeal. The rear profile boasts C shaped large taillights.
Interior of the car portrays sheer luxury, and welcomes you with the premiumness. Inspired by the new Volvo XC90’s cabin, the S90 also features a large tablet style touch screen infotainment system at the center console. Apart from that the cabin features multi-function steering wheel, sleek and informative instrument cluster, wooden trim at the dashboard, doors and centre console.
In India Volvo, S90 will be launched in two different variants. One being the D4 and the other one will be D5. Both the variants will come powered by differently tuned 1,969 cc diesel engines. Transmission duty will be done by an 8 speed Aisin Warner automatic gearbox. The 2.0 litre engine under the hood of D4 will churn out 190 hp of peak power and 400 Nm. While the D5 will come with 235 hp of peak power and 480 Nm of peak torque.

Volvo is known for producing cars with plenty of safety features. The S90 will come featuring features like automatic braking, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, etc. Interesting fact is that being powered by a sub 2,000 cc diesel engine the Volvo S90 will be eligible for sale in Delhi, NCR and Kerala. It will surely help to grow the Swedish automaker in India. The pricing for the cars are expected to be around Rs. 45 lakh to Rs. 55 lakh.
