Volvo S60 Cross Country launched in India at Rs 38.9 lakh; the niche model will be brought into the market as CBU import

Volvo has launched the S60 Cross Country for the India priced at Rs. 38.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). This is in confirmation with our exclusive report last month that the Swedish luxury auto maker has a slew of products lined-up for this year and the S60 Cross Country would be the first to see the light in March.

The S60 Cross Country is essentially the S60 sedan that underwent changes to wear the ‘Cross Country’ moniker. The luxury sedan will offer customers the necessary opulent qualities of the S60 while being able to perform some of the duties of a Sub Utility Vehicle. It will compete against the likes of the best-selling Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, the recently updated BMW 3-Series and Jaguar’s all-new XE.

The major modifications Volvo engineers implemented on the S60 Cross Country are a raised suspension due to which the sedan boasts 65 mm more ground clearance than the stock model and the new set of alloy wheels bolted on larger tyres. On the exterior front, the Cross Country looks as similar to the standard S60. The added SUV-ish features are matte sliver scuff plates on the sides and black cladding in the lower part of the body.

The S60 Cross County’s tall stance will make it an imposing car among its competitors and it can become a welcoming proposition for the affluent buyers seeking driving versatility from a four-door body-styled sedan with room for five occupants. The lifted suspension is accompanied by ample 340 litres with rear seats up and a riding quality suitable for rough roads.

Up front, it features honeycomb grille and sleeker headlamps with L-shaped tail lights. It has the equipment from the range-topping S60 sedan with premium leather interiors, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth audio streaming, dynamic stability traction control (DSTC) and advanced stability control, seven-inch Volvo’s Sensus touchscreen infotainment system and much more.

Volvo offers the S60 Cross Country with two engine options: The 2.0-litre four-cylinder D4 diesel motor produces 188 bhp of maximum power and 240 Nm of peak torque. The detuned 2.4-litre five-cylinder D4 diesel pumps out 178 bhp of power and 420 Nm of torque. Both diesel versions will be coupled with a six-speed automatic gearbox and the car can do 0-100 kmph in 8.8 seconds before topping out 210 kmph. The all-wheel drive system is only provided as optional.
