Volvo Plans Seven New Products for 2016 including Polestar Performance Cars

Volvo plans seven new products for 2016 which will include S60 Polestar, S60 Cross Country, all-new S90 sedan, XC90 Excellence and R-design, V40 Facelift and Cross Country Facelift. Here's a low down of all the seven products that Volvo plans to conduct an assault with in the ever-expanding luxury car segment in India next year: Volvo S90: Designed to rival against the likes of Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, Jaguar XF and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Volvo S90 will be the successor to the aging S80 and the latest teaser images revealed that it has number of distinct styling elements unseen on any previous Volvo models like a large bolder taillights and sleeker LEDs up front. It’s been confirmed by the firm’s VP of Product Strategy, Lex Kerssemakers, that 2015 XC90’s success will have a huge influence on the S90 flagship model. The teaser images indicate muscular shoulder line, LED taillights and headlamps with “Thor Hammer” DRLs in complete contrast to the outgoing S80 executive saloon. Expected to make global debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, it boasts wide-spread taillight design that houses prominent Volvo nameplate on the heavily sculpted bootlid. As for the interior, it could more likely borrow elements from the futuristic Volvo Concept 26 self-driving autonomous car. Built on Volvo’s new modular SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture), the S90 luxury sedan will have the same powertrain as the XC90 SUV. Initial models will be powered by a twin-charged 2.0-litre inline-four Drive-E engine good to produce 316 horses and 295 lb-ft of torque mated to an 8-speed Aisin automatic transmission whilst four-wheel drive system could come only as an option. A gasoline-electric hybrid will follow suit as the T8 Twin Engine that generates 394hp and 472 lb-ft. of torque will have plug-in hybrid system onboard to provide an electric driving range of up to 20 miles(32km). Developed from 20 years of motorsport experience in Swedish Touring Cars and other Tin Top categories, the Volvo S60 Polestar features a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six 350 hp T6 petrol engine and an extensively developed chassis to make the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.9 seconds whilst topping out an electronically-limited 250km/h. It will have Polestar Öhlins shock absorber system, Polestar front strut brace with carbon fibre enforcement and 80% stiffer Polestar springs to adhere to its sportiness and blistering performance. With increased ground clearance of 65mm over standard sedan and sturdy construction, the S60 Cross Country will spark a new segment. It has Integrated tailpipes to reflect its sporty side while the roomy and leather interiors speak for pure luxury. A new niche in the compact executive sector, the front-wheel-drive model could get the 187bhp 2.0-litre D4 diesel engine that currently powers the V40. Four-wheel drive buyers will have to choose the five-cylinder 2.4-litre D4 engine that puts out 178bhp and is also offered in the XC60 SUV. It will be the top-of-the-line XC90 with broad and spacious individual reclining rear seats complete with massage, ventilation and increased leg room, a retractable control touchscreen, folding tables, a refrigerator with bottle and glass holders, a heating/cooling cup holder and handmade crystal glasses. Like the Excellence, the 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel producing 225bhp will likely power the XC90 R-design. The sporty makeover comes with an updated exterior and added features. The black mesh front grille, silver-effect side mirrors, tinted rear windows and 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels distinguish the premium SUV in this trim. The cabin adds a 12.3-inch TFT active driver's info display, updated lighting, perforated leather-trimmed steering wheel with paddle shifters, sports pedals, electric front passenger seat with memory function just like the driver's seat and black headliner along with an exclusive R-Design leather-clad remote key fob. The facelifted V40 changes could include tweaks to front and rear bumpers alongside freshening up tail-lamps and grille designs, to stand in substance with new headlights aligned by Thor’s Hammer LED DRLs. The Volvo V40 Cross Country is more likely to be updated with similar styling with no changes to the engine line-up. The Drive-E range of four cylinder engines are expected to serve the V40 through into the next generation. The range includes the D4 Drive E 4 cylinder twin turbo diesel engine rated at 190hp and 400Nm with a six-speed manual transmission or 8-speed Aisin automatic gearbox and a T5 Drive-E that includes a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine delivering 243hp and 350 Nm of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
