Volkswagen sold 800 units of Tiguan SUV in India in six months; delivery for new bookings to be made next year

Volkswagen is seeing pretty good response with its premium SUV Tiguan in Indian market as the brand has sold out all the models for 2017. The German car manufacturer retailed 800 units in just six months since its introduction in the domestic market in May 2017. As the brand says, delivery for the new bookings will be made in 2018 only.

The automaker imports Tiguan SUV as CKD units and assembles them locally in its Aurangabad facility. Priced between Rs. 27.49 lakh and Rs. 30.88 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), Tiguan competes with rivals like Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in the premium SUV segment. Also, this is the first SUV from Volkswagen in India to be based on popular MQB architecture.

Speaking about its features, Volkswagen Tiguan gets LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights, LED taillights. It runs on 18-inch Kingston alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, there is a panoramic sunroof with LED surround lighting, a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-zone automatic climate control system, heated front seats, electrically adjustable driver seat with memory function etc.

The SUV comes with a very suave styling and it takes design cue from European market-spec Golf and Passat. Despite a very appealing styling, the five-seater SUV gets 4Motion All Wheel Drive technology that lets it perform some real tough tasks on rough terrains. Available in two different trims, Comfortline and Highline, the SUV gets AWD as standard.

Volkswagen Tiguan is available with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine only and for transmission duty it gets only a 7-speed automatic gearbox. The turbocharged diesel engine is well capable of churning out 141 bhp of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 340 Nm of peak torque between 1,750 rpm and 2,750 rpm. Also, it delivers 17.06 kmpl of fuel efficiency.
