Tiguan is the flagship model of VW in India and the SUV is facing stiff competition from rivals. On some Delhi-NCR dealership, current year stock of Tiguan is available with a good discount of up to Rs. 3 lakh, which makes it more attractive. The Tiguan is currently available in two variants – Comfortline and Highline.

The German manufacturer is offering a 4-year warranty along with 4-year roadside assistance and 1st-year labour free service also. Volkswagen sold just 63 units of Tiguan last month compared to 110 units in the same month last year as the sales dropped by 43 per cent Year-On-Year. In January 2019, the company sold just 3 units of Tiguan.

Volkswagen introduced the Tiguan in 2017 priced at Rs. 28.05 lakh for the entry level Comfortline variant and Rs. 31.44 lakh for the Highline trim. The Tiguan is priced competitively but the SUV comes only with 5-seater, which limited its appeal as most of the customers in this segment prefer 7-seater models.

The company is assembling the SUV at its Chakan plant in Pune to keep cost down. It is based on the modular MQB platform. The interior is finished in black colour with a three-spoke steering wheel and the centre console is dominated by touch screen infotainment system. The quality of materials is excellent and the company has packed the SUV with lots of features.

The SUV is powered by 2.0 L diesel engine producing 143 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 340 Nm of torque between 1,750 – 2,750 rpm. This engine is mated to 7-speed DSG gearbox with steering-mounted paddle shifters and the company has given Haldex AWD system.  According to ARAI, the Tiguan return 17.06 km/l.
