Most of the accidents occur in night as people won’t see animals or pedestrians. Even though headlight technology has moved a lot ahead with LED and Laser headlights which can illuminate night road like day time. Volkswagen is all set to introduce its first thermal imaging camera on Touareg from 2019 onwards as the company has revealed more details about the system.
Thermal imaging camera is not something new on automobiles as high end luxury cars like Mercedes Benz S Class, BMW 7 Series and Audi A8 have been using them for couple of generations now. The system on Volkswagen also works in the same way as its competitors. The Thermal imaging camera is positioned on the front of Touareg to detect the infrared radiation from humans and other living organism.

If the person or anything enters the defined corridor then the system will highlight it as red. If the Touareg is travelling above 50 km then the system will automatically display image on the instrument cluster and if the speed is below 50 km then a warning light will be shown. The models which come with head up display will also get a warning chime rings and a red signal.
