Volkswagen recorded 3,672 unit sales in the month of March 2022 as against 2,025 units with a YoY volume increase of 81.3 per cent
Volkswagen India posted a cumulative domestic tally of 3,672 unit sales in the month of March 2022 as against 2,025 units during the same period last year with a YoY volume increase of 81.3 per cent. The German auto major, however, recorded an MoM negative sales growth of 8.8 per cent as 4,028 units were garnered in March 2021 in India.
VW endured a market share of 1.1 per cent last month as against 0.6 per cent during the corresponding period in 2021 with a gain of 0.5 per cent. The Taigun midsize SUV led the sales charts with a total of 2,380 units. The five-seater competes against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Nissan Kicks and others in the highly competitive segment.
The Taigun is the first model spawned out of the India 2.0 project for Volkswagen and it has been decently received amongst buyers. It derives power from a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine kicking out 110 PS and 175 Nm while a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol mill delivers 150 PS maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque.

The Polo premium hatchback recorded 1,086 units against 1,888 units in March 2021 with a YoY volume drop of 42 per cent. VW has already announced pulling the plug on Polo as its twelve-year stint has come to a closure and it was unarguably the most popular model within the brand’s portfolio for many years.
The Vento midsize sedan finished in the third position with 175 units against 137 units in March 2021 with a YoY growth of 28 per cent while the Tiguan SUV garnered 31 units to finish fourth. Next up, VW will replace the Vento with the Virtus and it made its local debut a few weeks ago. Its production has commenced at the Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra.
The official market launch will happen on June 9, 2022 and it features a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a flat-bottom steering wheel, wireless charging facility, ventilated front seats, digital cluster, six airbags, etc.
