Volkswagen Gen.E Concept Unveiled Previewing Next-Gen Golf

The Gen.E concept will act as a testing platform for Volkswagen; underpinned by a lightweight architecture it offers 400 km range

German automobile giant Volkswagen has unveiled an all-new all-electric concept car christened as Gen.E. Showcased at the Future Mobility Days event in Germany, this electric hatchback concept previews the new generation Volkswagen Golf that is expected to be unveiled in 2020. However, the automaker claims that this Gen.E concept will serve as a testing platform for the brand.

Volkswagen has cleared its strategy to roll out around 20 all-electric by 2025. It has already started developing the cars as well and the all-new Gen.E concept could provide valuable technical progress to the brand helping in its futuristic strategy. The new electric hatchback concept not only previews a stylish and sculpted design, it offers 400 km of overall range along with robotic charging technology as well.

Speaking about design, it is clearly inspired by the brand’s current crop of cars. It comes with sharp headlamps with sleek integrated LED daytime running lights and LED lamps. Apart from that, it also gets a wide air intake up front. The hood too boasts crisp creases giving it a sculpted appearance.

The low frontal area, raked windshield, subtly muscular side profile, attractive alloy wheel design, large glass area with pillarless look, integrated roof spoiler at the back along with sleek taillights, rear view camera not only enhance its sporty charm. These design elements give the concept car a very premium feel. It is based on a lightweight new platform that is expected to underpin several upcoming EVs from the German brand.

This new lightweight platform has been developed to offer the car maximum crash protection. The company is yet tight lipped about the further progress of this concept or any technical specification as well. But, it is capable of running 400 km on a single charge and expect the new generation electric powered VW Golf to use all these technologies and design language from this concept model.
