Volkswagen Bulli Concept teaser released; the all-electric minivan will debut at the 2016 CES in January and production will begin in 2017

The German auto major Volkswagen has revealed teaser footage of the all-electric Bulli concept that will be broken covers at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show to be held in Las Vegas in January.

Organisers of CES said Volkswagen’s head of passenger vehicles, Dr Herbert Diess, would address his company’s future solutions for electric mobility and a concept will be revealed on top of his speech. The Bulli EV Concept looks set to be that vehicle for the brand that endured plethora of issues with the emission scandal in the past few months.

The production version of the VW Bulli Concept will have a newly developed electric drivetrain. It is an evolved take on the 2011 Bulli Microbus Concept which was expected to be put into manufacturing back then. It has a modern version of Volkswagen’s new design language with the stance of a tall-riding van hinting at a production model.

The German manufacturer has also plans to showcase some of its connectivity technologies at the trade show as well. Lauded as the harbinger for “affordable long-distance electromobility.”, the Volkswagen Bulli EV will come boasting with the retro-looks of the Microbus van concept with futuristic design as seen in the teaser images.

The teaser video depicts slim up-rising LED tail lamps with black inserts. Ahead of it, a LED strip running along the width and is shaped through the sides and emerge at the front. It falls in-line with the LED strip above the squinted headlamps. The front fascia has an illuminated V-shaped large grille and and C-shaped DRLs with shorter overhangs and a wide D-pillar emphasising the boxy appeal of the Microbus van.

The production version of the all-electric minivan concept will be unveiled in 2017 and manufactured at the Volkswagen’s facility in Mexico. It will spawn a variant offered with turbo four-pod petrol and diesel power units to meet the volume sales in markets around the global.
