2018 has been a very good year of SUVs, especially in the compact-SUV segment as people prefer them over sedan models. But the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Creta were in a league of their own as both of them are the best selling SUVs of 2018. Maruti Suzuki sold 1,58,466 units of Vitara Brezza in Jan-Dec 2018.
While Hyundai has managed to sell 1,23,905 units of Creta. Both these models got an update last year, which helped these models to improve sales. Maruti Suzuki introduced the AMT model of Vitara Brezza in May along with minor updates across the variants. The much-awaited Creta facelift model was launched in July.
The Vitara Brezza and Creta sold around 10,000 units per month consistently across the year. The updated Vitara Brezza comes with styling updates like chrome-finished grille and tailgate along with black alloy wheels. Maruti introduced two new colour options – Autumn Orange and the company is also offering dual tone colour options also.
Maruti Suzuki has given more importance for safety as the company has given ISOFIX child seat restraint system, high-speed warning alert, reverse parking sensors, dual airbags and ABS with EBD. These features are standard across the range and the company increased the price of Vitara Brezza slightly over its predecessor.
The Vitara Brezza continues to be powered by 1.3 L diesel engine with 89 PS and 200 Nm, with the option of 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox. Hyundai Creta facelift model comes with the new signature grille of the company along with revised headlamps and an updated bumper. The LED DRLs has been integrated into the fog lamps.
The rear gets a new bumper and the compact SUV comes with new colour options also. The interior continues to be the same and the company has given new features like wireless charging, sunroof, wearable smart key, cruise control and electrically adjustable driver seat. The Creta continues to be powered by same 1.4 L diesel engine, 1.6 L diesel and petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox.
