Mahindra alone contributed 33% in total UV sales in March 2017; other major contributors include Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Creta and Toyota Innova Crysta

India customer’s love for the utility vehicles is well known and this why, every automaker present in the country are trying to grab a good share in the highly competitive UV segment. In the last month of last FY, more than 75,000 UVs were sold in India, with Mahindra being the largest contributor in the segment.

The biggest SUV maker of India has contributed 33% of the total UV sales in March 2017, while other major contributors include popular cars like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Creta and Innova Crysta. As usual, Vitara Brezza is on the top of the list with 10,057 units sold in last month, while its rival Hyundai Creta is at the second spot with 10,001 units. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has seen 81% sales growth over March 2016, when it sold 5,563 units.

Mahindra is known as the SUV maker of India and it contributed the largest amount to the total sales with models like Scorpio, TUV300, Bolero and XUV500. The Scorpio has sold 5,157 units and the TUV300 sold 2,440 units in March 2017, while the flagship Mahindra SUV XUV500 has sold 2,663 units. The workhorse Bolero stands third with 8,681 units.

In the Rs. 25 lakh – Rs. 35 lakh price slab, the Toyota Fortuner has seen an immense 328% growth over March 2016. It sold 2,060 units in March 2017, compared to 481 units in same month last year. Its rival Ford Endeavour sold 390 units last month. Toyota Innova Crysta is one of the very popular cars in the country and in the last month of last fiscal, it sold 7,252 units.

Among other cars, Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster are strong players. The EcoSport has sold 4,662 units last month. The Renault Duster on the other hand has registered 1,566 units in March 2017. Honda WR-V has earned a pretty good response immediately after launch in the country and in the very first month after introduction, it has sold 3,833 units.
