The new segments like compact SUVs are gaining more traction in the Indian market but the outright volume still comes from the hatchback segment, which is why top manufacturers like Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki give importance for this segment. In this article, we are featuring the top 5 upcoming hatchbacks, which is going to be launched in 2019.

1. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

Maruti Suzuki is going to launch the third generation of Wagon R on January 23rd. The upcoming model is based on the advanced Heartect platform, which underpins most of the new generation of products from the company and the new model is more rigid than outgoing model even though it is lighter. The upcoming hatchback retains the tall boy design theme, which made the Wagon R so popular among customers.

The front gets new grille along with big headlamps and a new bumper with redesigned fog lamp inserts. The C-pillar gets a black finish and the rear comes with new tail lamps. The interior is completely new as the company has given new steering wheel and instrument cluster along with lots of features. The Wagon R is powered by 1.0 and 1.2 L K-Series engines with manual and AMT gearbox options.

2. Tata 45X

Tata Motor is developing a new premium hatchback, which is codenamed as X451 and it is the production version of the 45X Concept from the 2018 Auto Expo. The upcoming model will be based on the Alpha platform and the production model could share the same design theme as the concept version. The hatchback might get the dual headlamp setup of the Harrier.

The interior design is expected to take inspirations from the Nexon and it might come with semi-digital instrument cluster of the Harrier. Tata Motors will pack the 45X with lots of features like touchscreen infotainment system, climate control and more. The engine options include a new 1.2 L petrol engine with a mild hybrid system and 1.5 L diesel engine from Nexon with the option of manual and auto gearbox.

3. Hyundai Grand i10

Hyundai is working on the third generation of Grand i10 and it is expected to be introduced in the festival season. The new Grand i10 is expected to retain the same platform with updates to meet the upcoming safety standards. The company has given an evolutionary design theme for the hatchback as the front get new signature grille of Hyundai along with swept back headlamps.

The side might retain the similar design theme as current model with new alloy wheels. The tail lamp will be a new unit with an updated bumper. The interior will be completely new and the hatchback will be loaded with lots of features. The engine options include the same 1.2 L petrol and diesel engine with manual and AMT gearbox options.

 

4. Ford Figo Facelift

Ford is expected to launch the Figo facelift model later this year in India. The hatchback come with minor exterior changes like a new front bumper with redesigned fog lamp inserts. The side will continue with the same design theme as the earlier model except for the new alloy wheels design.

The interior gets lots of changes as the centre console will get a new touch screen infotainment system along with an updated instrument cluster and the quality of materials might improve. The Figo facelift model will be powered by a new 1.2 L petrol engine and the same 1.5 L diesel engine from the current model with manual transmission.

5. Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift

Maruti Suzuki is going to launch the Baleno facelift model soon in India and most of the changes for the premium hatchback is in the front. The company has given a new bumper with redesigned fog lamp inserts along with a new air dam. The grille also gets minor updates like chrome finish, which is subtle and it goes well with the overall design.

The side design continues to be the same except for new 16-inch alloy wheels and the rear will get a new bumper. The interior doesn’t get any major changes and it will come with standard features like reverse parking sensors, dual front airbags and driver seat belt alert. The Baleno will be powered by the same 1.2 L petrol and 1.3 L diesel engine with manual as standard and auto only with a petrol engine.
