Tata Blackbird will be the third SUV, after H2X and Buzzard, to complete its company’s SUV line-up for India

Tata Motors has been rapidly expanding its product portfolio, which has helped the company step into completely new segments. Among its latest vehicles, the Harrier has helped the company take the fight straight to the Jeep Compass, while the JTP twins rub shoulders with performance-focussed Polos and Puntos of this world.

Soon, the company will have the Buzzard, a 7-seater SUV positioned above the Harrier, and H2X, a sub-Nexon product that will rival the Mahindra KUV100 and Maruti Ignis. However, it’s the Tata Blackbird that will complete the company’s SUV portfolio.

The Tata Blackbird will find itself slotted between the Nexon and the Harrier, which means the new model will be positioned bang in the Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks territory. It will even compete with entry-level versions of the Kia SP2i. The SUV will become the third all-new product to be underpinned by the ALFA platform after the Altroz and the H2X.

While the Tata Blackbird won’t share the OMEGA platform with the Harrier, its design will be highly similar to that of the H5X-based SUV. Based on the IMPACT 2.0 language, the new SUV will have a multi-tier lighting setup, Humanity Line and bold creases. The concept version of the new model could be showcased at the Auto Expo in February next year.

Even the interior of the Tata Blackbird is expected to take inspiration from the Harrier and have the same steering wheel and the aircraft-inspired parking brake. It should also have the same large-size infotainment screen and the European design for the dashboard. As is the case with all Tata models, the cabin will be adequately spacious for five occupants.

The Tata Buzzard will offer many features like an electric sunroof, leather upholstery, reverse camera, automatic headlamps, cruise control, wireless charging, and multiple driving models. Engine options could include turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel with transmission options including manual and automatic units.
