We believe that after the Tata Nexon, the Tata Altroz will become the next model to receive a full 5-star NCAP safety rating
Tata Motors unveiled the Tata Altroz in a near-production format at the recently held Geneva Motor Show. The new model will become the most premium Tata hatchback yet and will be responsible for the debut of the ALFA architecture. The Tata Altroz will even have a modern design and powerful engines. In fact, we are even sure that it will be the next 5-star NCAP rating model from Tata Motors.
There’s a reason behind our belief. If you see, the Tata Nexon is currently the only 5-star rated model in its segment. Now, the Tata Altroz will be built on a more modern ALFA platform and should even benefit from the company’s robust build quality. The modern architecture and the solid built will, in all probability, translate into a 5-star safety rating from NCAP. This will make the Altroz the safest car in the segment.
The Tata Altroz is expected to launch in the second half of 2019 and will become a direct rival to the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. It draws heavy visual inspiration from the Tata 45X concept for its exterior styling. On the inside, it gets a floating touchscreen infotainment system and a cabin that looks spacious enough.
The engine options for the Tata Altroz aren’t known at the moment. However, the Baleno rival is likely to feature an updated version of the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that powers the Tiago. Transmission options will likely include a manual and a dual-clutch automatic unit. The Altroz could even offer a mild-hybrid setup.
As per rumours, the Tata Altroz is even slated to get a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine of the Nexon. This engine could be sold with the JTP version, which will take on the likes of Maruti Baleno RS and VW Polo GT TSI. For the Tiago and Tigor JTP, this engine outputs 114 PS and 150 Nm.
Unlike the Nexon, however, the Tata Altroz won’t get a 6-speed manual transmission. Due to engineering constraints, it will be available only with 5-speed manual and dual-clutch automatic transmissions. An EV version is also on the cards.
