2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift


Maruti Suzuki being the biggest automaker in India has a range of attractive and very popular cars in its stable and one of them is the Swift hatchback which has been the bestselling model in its segment for long time. Now, the Indo-Japanese brand is ready to launch the new-generation Swift in the country which has been already unveiled during the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The new Swift hatchback is expected to launch in India sometime during fourth quarter of FY 2017-18. Expect it to make its India debut during the upcoming 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo.

The next-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift comes wearing a significantly updated styling compared to the current model. It looks much more stylish and sportier than the present model. Also, the hatchback has been designed in line with Suzuki’s latest models and it appears pretty upmarket as well. Up front, it gets a completely new hexagonal large radiator grille with honeycomb mesh and chrome trim around it. The headlamps also come revised and sharper incorporating projector lamps and integrated LED daytime running lights.

The front bumper too looks crafted and sports black housing for fog lamps. At the side profile, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Swift gets a very flowing design along with sporty alloy wheels, turn indicator integrated ORVMs, a fully floating roof design thanks to the blackened A and B pillars along with partly black C pillar. The rear passenger door handle has been repositioned to the thick C pillar. Moving to the rear, the hatchback gets updated taillights and a crafty bumper as well alongside a roof spoiler that enhances the visual appeal further.

Inside the cabin, the new Swift hatchback appears sportier and more upmarket compared to the current model. It gets a multi-function steering wheel, new dual-pod instrument cluster with analog dials and digital display. The centre console gets a MirrorLink touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The circular AC vents, improved quality material on seat and upholstery increase this vehicles appeal.

Interestingly, the new Swift comes 120 kg lighter than the present model, significantly improving the performance and fuel efficiency. On the powertrain front, the car is likely to come with an updated 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine capable of churning out 83 bhp of peak power at 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The 1.3-litre DDIS diesel engine sourced from Fiat would also continue. On the transmission front, this hatchback will get a 5-speed MT and an AMT as well.

2018 Hyundai Elite i20


Hyundai is the second biggest car brand in Indian market with range of attractive cars in different segments. One of the very popular and stylish models from the brand is the premium hatchback Hyundai Elite i20, which is ready to come in a new avatar. Test mule of the Hyundai Elite i20 facelift model has been spied testing on Indian roads and it is expected to go on sale sometime later this year. Upon arrival, the car will be priced between Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), that means except couple of top trims it will be well within the Rs. 5 lakh – Rs. 8 lakh slab.

Speaking about the all-new Hyundai Elite i20, the facelifted premium hatchback will sport a revised front grille in line with the latest cars from the South Korean brand. The hexagonal front grille will see plenty of chrome garnishing. The headlamps could come revised as well and they would feature projector lamps and integrated LED daytime running lights. Also, the front bumper could come overhauled as well.

At the side profile, nothing major change is expected, but the facelifted version would sport new design alloy wheels, chrome finished door handles. Apart from that, it would come with blackened door handles, a floating roof design and turn indicator integrated ORVMs. Rear profile of the car is expected to incorporate slight tweak with an updated bumper and revised taillights.

Inside the cabin, Hyundai Elite i20 facelift will offer more upmarketness compared to the current model. It will come sporting a multi-function steering wheel, analog and digital display consisting instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system at the centre console. The seat and upholstery materials are expected to come of improved quality. However, the space will remain identical as the current model, due to no change in dimension.

On the powertrain front, Hyundai Elite i20 facelift model will get a 1.4-litre dual VTVT petrol engine, while the diesel model will be powered by a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi unit. Both the petrol and the diesel models will come pumping out same power and torque output as the current model. On the transmission front, the premium hatchback gets a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 5-speed MT and a 4 speed AT as well. However, fuel efficiency could be improved than the present model.

Hyundai Eon Facelift

Hyundai Eon is a pretty popular car in the small car segment of Indian auto market. Currently the South Korean auto major is working on a facelift version of the Eon hatchback and it is expected to arrive with some significant changes, both on design and powertrain front. The Eon facelift is likely to be launched within a few months.

The Hyundai Eon facelift gets a new hexagonal front grille and the headlamps are also likely to come with updated appearance. The front bumper would see a tweak and at the side profile, it would sport new design alloy wheels, subtle character lines and a flowing look. The car will come with blackened glass area. Moving to the rear, it is expected to sport revised taillights and an updated bumper as well.

Interior of the car would become little more stylish and upmarket thanks to the introduction of new features. It could get multi-function steering wheel, analog and digital display consisting instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system at the centre console. In terms of space and comfort, the facelifted Eon will arrive same as there won’t be any dimensional change. The car will be underpinned by the same platform. However, the biggest change is expected to be introduced on the powertrain front. Currently, the Hyundai Eon is available with a 0.8-litre engine and a 1.0-litre engine, but the facelifted model is expected to come shedding the smaller unit.

The smaller 0.8-litre engine is said to be difficult to be able to meet the upcoming BS-VI emission norm that will be implemented across the country from 1st April, 2020. Upgrading the smaller engine to make it BS-VI compliant would be a pricey affair, which will hurt the pricing of the car. Therefore, the new Eon could come sporting only the 1.0-litre engine. Also, there could be an AMT or automatic transmission alongside the manual gearbox. Speaking about its pricing, the car could be priced between Rs. 3 lakh and Rs. 5 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). In that case, the top trim would be positioned in the slab of Rs. 5 lakh – Rs. 8 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Cross

Maruti Suzuki Celerio garnered immense popularity not only in the Indian market, but in the global market too. The small hatchback is known for its practicality, affordability, compactness and above all the AGS (Auto Gear Shift) played very crucial role in making it popular. Now, the Indo-Japanese automaker is preparing to launch a crossover version of the Celerio that would be christened as the Maruti Suzuki Celerio Cross.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio Cross will come as a potential challenger against the Chevrolet Beat Aktiv. It gets a design like a crossover, but in characteristics, it will be a softroader to be precise. Speaking about the design, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio Cross sports a revised front grille with chrome garnishing. Headlamps come with identical look as the current model, while the front bumper will come with an updated and chunky look thanks to the thick cladding.

A touchscreen infotainment system at the centre console could be offered, but it would come only in the top end trim. Speaking about the seat and upholstery, they would come wearing improved quality material and could don contrast stitching in order to become sportier. Power source for the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Celerio Cross would be the same 1.0-litre petrol engine capable of churning out 67 bhp of peak power and 90 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duty will be done by a 5-speed manual gearbox, while there will be the Maruti’s Auto Gear Shift (AGS) as well. This car is expected to arrive sometime during early next year and it has high chance to make debut at the 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo.

Datsun Go Cross


Nissan owned budget focused car brand Datsun has cleared that it wants to roll out exciting and stylish cars in the country market with loads of interesting technology and features. Demand and popularity of the compact SUV and crossovers in the country are well known and Datsun is focusing to grab a chunk of that pie with its Go Cross. The concept model was displayed at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo and it grabbed everyeone’s attention. Upon launch, this car is expected to play a crucial role in revival of the brand.

Tailored for the emerging markets, this vehicle will be Datsun’s fourth model in India. The Datsun Go Cross comes with a very muscular and bold sporty look. It sports a large hexagonal front grille with honeycomb mesh, sharp and laid back headlamps with projector units and integrated LED daytime running lights. The concept model was displayed with sleek chrome detailing around the front grille, auxiliary headlamps right between the headlamps and radiator grille.

The front bumper looks muscular and gets a large air intake, while the fog lamps come with horizontal and sleek shape. At the side profile, this car comes with thick side body cladding, sporty and large alloy wheels, metal scuff plate, turn indicator integrated ORVMs, blackened glass area, sporty roof rail. The rear fascia gets compact taillights, integrated roof spoiler, a chunky bumper and a skid plate as well.

In terms of interior design, this car will bring a huge change in the current Datsun lineup. Despite being a model from the budget focused brand, the car will boast several upmarket and interesting features in order to compete with the rivals like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. On the other hand, the diesel engine pumps out 63.1 bhp of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 160 Nm of peak torque at 2,000 rpm.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Dreza


Ertiga is Maruti Suzuki’s popular offering in the MPV segment. The people mover is expected to receive a new variant called Ertiga Dreza. The car is likely to come in the market sometime during early 2018. High chances are there that this will make its India debut during 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo. With expected price between Rs. 7 lakh and Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), this car’s base trim will be available under the slab of Rs. 5 lakh – Rs. 8 lakh.

The car was showcased at the 2016 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show and grabbed everyone’s attention. It comes with a distinctive looking front grille with layered appearance. The headlamps remain same as the standard Ertiga, while the front bumper incorporates a large air intake with layered look and chrome trim. At both sides of the air intake there are sleek horizontal LED lights and round shaped fog lamps are positioned at both ends of the bumper.

At the side profile, the Ertiga Dreza looks pretty clean. It sports subtly flared wheelarches, body coloured ORVMs, blackened glass area, turn indicator integrated ORVMs, sporty alloy wheels. Rear fascia of the car comes with a roof spoiler, compact and wraparound taillights and a chunky bumper.

Inside the cabin, the Ertiga Dreza will come more upmarket compared to the standard Ertiga. It will have a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the centre console, separate infotainment system for the rear occupants. Apart from that, the front armrest will have storage compartment. Seat and upholstery materials will come of upmarket quality. Expect several top notch safety features to be offered with this vehicle.

Power source for the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Dreza will be a 1.4-litre K14B petrol engine under the hood coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine will be churning out 94 bhp of peak power at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The India-spec Ertiga Dreza could come with a 1.3-litre diesel engine like the regular model.

Premium hatchback segment in India has received a huge boost with the arrival of Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Apart from that, there are Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz and both of them are very popular. Now, Tata Motors focusing on more upmarket products instead of mass market cars, is readying to launch the X451 premium hatchback that is expected to arrive sometime in 2018. Upon arrival, this will challenge the rivals like Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz.

The premium hatchback will come incorporating the IMPACT design language and it is likely to come with a sharp and stylish look. The Tata X451 hatch will get sharp headlamps with projector units and integrated LED daytime running lights. The front grille is likely to don plenty of chrome garnishing, while the front bumper too will come with large air intake, black fog lamp housing. Overall, it will come with a sporty and eye-catching design.
