Maruti to launch a premium SUV, an Ertiga based crossover and a Wagon-R MPV; petrol version of Vitara Brezza is also on the card
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to roll out three new utility vehicles in the Indian market in next four years. The automaker has tasted great success with the Vitara Brezza compact SUV that became popular in the domestic market within very short span after introduction. Inspired by this success, Maruti wants to grow bigger in the highly competitive utility vehicle segment of the country market.
The upcoming three Maruti Suzuki UVs include a premium SUV that will challenge tough rivals like Tata Hexa and Mahindra XUV500. This car is expected to be rolled out sometime in late 2019 and it is likely to be priced between Rs. 12 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom). Apart from that, there will be a crossover based on a modified version of the platform used by the Ertiga MPV. This modified architecture is internally codenamed as YHB.

The third model in the list is a three-row seater MPV based on the popular tallboy hatchback Wagon-R. This seven-seater car is expected to strengthen the brand’s position in MPV segment, where currently Maruti Suzuki offers the Ertiga. Exact timeframe of these launches are yet to be disclosed by the automaker. But, the Ertiga based crossover and the MPV are likely to arrive before the premium SUV.
Apart from these three new models, Maruti Suzuki is currently testing the new Ertiga. The 2018 Maruti Ertiga is likely to come as a nine-seater MPV and it could be launched at 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo in February next year. Also, the brand is working on a petrol version of the Vitara Brezza that will enhance the compact SUV’s popularity further.

So far, with the launch of the new three utility vehicles, Maruti Suzuki’s UV portfolio will expand significantly and pricing range of this segment will be between Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom). If priced right, these three new utility vehicles will help the brand to consolidate its pole position in the Indian market.
