New renderings have revealed how the production version of Maruti Suzuki Future S concept – the S-Presso would look like, launch around the festive season

Maruti Suzuki is going through a turmoil and the product lineup is partly to be blamed, apart from the sales sump the whole industry is going through. Maruti Suzuki hasn’t launched anything new a while now, while the other manufacturers are bringing new and well-packaged products every now and then. But Maruti can change this equation pretty soon with the S-Presso small SUVish crossover.

Maruti’s intention to launch an entry-level SUV sitting below the Vitara Brezza was announced at the 2018 Auto Expo where India’s largest car manufacturer with over 50% market share revealed the Future S-Concept, a micro SUV based on the Alto, and most likely will replace the hatchback.

While the car is not actually an SUV, it wants to replicate the success of Kwid, Renault’s most successful product in India directly stacking against the hot-selling Alto. The reason why so many buyers preferred Kwid over Alto was its micro SUV look for a hatchback.

Maruti will do something on the similar lines with the S-Presso which is expected to launch during the festive season this year. This will be the first budget offering from Maruti Suzuki in a long time and IAB has rendered how the S-Presso could look like. The S-Presso is going through testing and caught on spy shots.

The car is designed and engineered by Maruti Suzuki’s R&D unit with assistance from Suzuki and will be based on the company’s Heartect platform. A BS-VI engine and mandatory safety norms will be standard including high-speed warning alert, driver and co-driver SBR, driver airbag and rear parking sensors.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso will most likely be powered by the Alto’s K10B 1.0-litre engine that produces 68 PS at 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual transmission. It will compete against the Renault Kwid and Datusn Go.
