Mahindra Y400 will go on sale on November 19 and will be priced aggressively against main competitors Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour

Mahindra launched the Marazzo MPV in September 2018 and within 45 days of its arrival, the company has managed to achieve over 10,000 bookings. Riding on the wave of momentum, the homegrown automaker is preparing to introduce a brand new flagship model codenamed Y400.

It could carry the production name Inferno and will be positioned above the XUV500. The largest passenger UV manufacturer in the country has embarked on a new strategy of launching new generation vehicles and the Y400 is part of that. It will officially enter the domestic market on November 19.

Rivalling against the likes of segment-leading Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Honda CR-V, Isuzu MU-X and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport the Y400 or Inferno is reported to be priced aggressively. It will be locally assembled and is said to undercut the Fortuner by a big margin and lure customers with its on- and off-roading abilities.

Toyota has averaged over 2,000 unit sales of the Fortuner monthly in the last year and its popularity does not seem to be slowing down until now. However, the Mahindra Y400 could make a difference and eat into its sales. It is nothing but the rebadged version of SsangYong’s globally well-received G4 Rexton.
