Mahindra XUV700 is expected to be priced competitive against main rivals Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour

Mahindra & Mahindra’s renewed strategy meant a brand new MPV named Marazzo entered the domestic scenes at a competitive price bracket to fight against Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Tata Hexa and Toyota Innova Crysta. The next vehicle up in line for a launch is the range-topping full-sized SUV codenamed Y400.

The rebadged version of SsangYong Rexton was initially expected to have its launch date clash with Honda CR-V on October 9, but the Y400 will only grace showrooms with an official entry later next month. To more likely carry the production name Mahindra XUV700, the SUV will set an aggressive price range of around Rs. 23 lakh courtesy of high localisation.

It will compete against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Isuzu MU-X. The Mumbai-HQed manufacturer is not obviously targetting big volumes with the XUV700 as it’s a premium offering. Positioned above the XUV500, it replaces the underwhelming first generation SsangYong Rexton.

For the piece of mind to customers, Mahindra is expected to offer 5-year/1,50,000 km standard warranty with the XUV700 as in some International markets, Ssangyong offers 7-year/2,00,00 km warranty on Rexton G4 of which the XUV700 is rebadged version. In comparison, Toyota provides 3 yr/1,00,000 km warranty on its best-selling Fortuner, so is Mitsubishi with Pajero Sport. The rebadged Rexton debuted as a SsangYong at the 2017 Seoul Motor Show last year.

Although offered in a range of engine options globally, the SUV gets a 2.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine pumping out 187 horsepower and 420 Nm of peak torque in India, at least initially. It is mated to a Mercedes-sourced seven-speed torque converter automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels as standard.

For the off-road seekers, an AWD system will be on offer as option. The Mahindra XUV700 measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and has a height of 1,800 mm with 2,865 mm wheelbase and comes equipped with upmarket features like Nappa leather, 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7.0-inch LCD instrument cluster, automatic tailgate, etc.
