MPV segment is ruled by Toyota Innova Crysta which is priced on premium end and it doesn’t have a strong rival in India right now. Mahindra had Xylo in MPV segment but the lack of updates killed the product and now they are coming back with a new product, which is currently under development.

The upcoming MPV is codenamed U321 and the test mules were spotted multiple times in public roads. Our reader Varun spotted a test mule of U321 with production ready alloy wheels but the body is heavily camouflaged hiding design details. Mahindra has given 12 spoke alloy wheels for U321 with 16 inch size tyres which fill the wheel arches.

We can expect U321 to come with safety features like dual airbags, ABS, EBD and traction control on top end variants. Mahindra is focusing a lot on interior as the design of dashboard is completely different from other products and gives a premium feel.

The U321 comes with multi-functional steering wheel which is similar to TUV 300 but the instrument cluster is new with a screen in middle giving important details about the MPV for driver. The centre console get touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The control for climate control is placed below it and gear lever is integrated into the dashboard liberating more space.

Mahindra U321 MPV India Launch Spied 6The exterior gives the impression of a big car feel for U321 and we can expect good interior space for all three rows with roof mounted AC vents. The design of U321 is aggressive with swept back headlamps and XUV inspired grille. Mahindra U321 is based on XUV 500 monocoque platform and it is the first product developed by North American Technical Centre in Michigan.

Mahindra U321 is powered by 1.6 L mFalcon diesel engine producing 125 hp of power and 305 Nm of torque. The company will also offer a petrol engine which is a 2.0 L unit producing 150 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque. These engines are mated to 6 speed manual and automatic gearbox. Mahindra is expected to launch U321 production model in November.
