The Hyundai Kona EV in India will be launched on 9th Jule and will get a lower range battery as compared to Australia’s 64 kWh pack
Hyundai is gunning to launch some big and path-breaking products in India in the next few years, starting with the Hyundai Kona all-electric SUV that is confirmed to launch on 9th July 2019. Once launched, the Kona will become India’s first proper electric SUV. While almost all the details of the SUV are out, someone has actually reviewed the Kona where it is sold on video giving us a glimpse of what actually the SUV is all about.
The video is done by CarTell.TV from Australia where the car has already been launched along with the regular Kona. India, on the other hand, will only get the Kona EV and not the regular Kona. The Kona gets a unique front grille, which is not actually a grille for obvious reasons.
The modern grille is flanked by split headlamp set-up, which can be seen on many new SUVs like the newly launched Hyundai Venue and Tata Harrier in the Indian market. There are 17-inch wheels that add to the aggressive stance of the Kona EV.
The charging port for the battery is located behind the front grille with an openable flap. There are also front parking sensors for safety. The Kona EV in Australia gets a 64 kWh Lithium-ion Polymer battery pack powering a 201 PS and 395 Nm electric motor.
The Kona EV can do 449 km according to the WLTP cycle on a single full charge. However, the India market can get a lower 300 km range battery. As for the charging, Kona EV charges in 9 hours 35 minutes on the regular charger and can charge up to 80% in just 54 minutes and takes 75 minutes to charge completely.
In terms of features, EV gets artificial sound for the safety of the pedestrians, HUD, glass panoramic roof, wireless charging, heated steering wheel, cooled and heated seats and more.
