Hyundai Compact SUV Carlino Concept unveiled-2


Hyundai grabbed everyone’s attention at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo with an exciting SUV concept Carlino. Now, as the South Korean auto giant plans to launch 10 cars by the end of 2020, the Carlino derived compact SUV is going to be an important product from the brand. Upon its launch, the sub-four meter compact SUV will challenge the tough rivals like Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza along with Mahindra TU300 and the upcoming Tata Nexon as well.

The Hyundai Carlino concept based sub-four meter compact SUV will come christened as the Kona and it is ready to be unveiled at the 2017 New York Motor Show. It will sport the Korean brand’s latest design Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 language. Hyundai has been known for making some spectacularly stylish cars, and this one too would arrive featuring similar appearance. The car will be based on the i20’s platform and it will be positioned between the Creta and Tucson.

It is clear that Hyundai is targeting to enter every segment of the Indian auto market, and Kona plays a crucial role in that strategy. This B-segment SUV will come sporting a sharp look. Up front a large front grille and sleek sharp LED headlamps will be there along with integrated LED daytime running light. Expect the front grille to feature plenty of chrome garnishing and the front bumper too could arrive muscular. At the side profile, the car would get flared wheel arches and sporty alloy wheels. Apart from that, it would also receive chrome finished door handles, blackened glass area, turn indicator integrated ORVMs and roof rails.

The rear profile of the Hyundai Kona could get LED taillights, integrated roof spoiler and a chunky bumper as well. Inside the cabin too, the Hyundai Kona will deliver an upmarket vibe. It will get a multi-function steering wheel, analog and digital display consisting instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system at the centre console with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, it is likely to offer generous amount of space and comfort to the occupants. It will share several elements with the new Hyundai i30.

On the powertrain front, the Hyundai Kona will likely be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, while there will be a 1.4-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre diesel engine on offer too. As the Korean automaker has cleared its intention to introduce fully automatic or at least AMT gearbox to its entire portfolio, the Hyundai Kona too will come sporting a manual gearbox and an automatic option as well.
