Honda Amaze based SUV to go on sale in a price range of Rs 7-10 lakh and it is expected to be launched in India by late 2019 or early 2020

Honda Cars India Ltd has been setting new sales records with the introduction of the new-gen Honda Amaze. But the company isn’t the one to sit on its laurels. Instead, it’s working on a range of new cars that will help it set a stronger foothold in the market. As per a new report, Honda plans to launch as many as five new cars in India.

Two of these will be SUVs and one of the two SUVs will be based on the Amaze platform. In India, the Honda Amaze-SUV will rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and Tata Nexon.

So far, the GSP platform that underpins the Brio, Amaze, WR-V, and Mobilio has been successful not only in India but also in other South East Asian markets. Hence, Honda could be planning to make full use of the tried-and-tested architecture.

The Japanese carmaker giant has been losing sales to Maruti Suzuki India Ltd and Korean auto major Hyundai in many segments. The Honda City, which was the highest selling C2-segmenter for several years, has repeatedly lost out to the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna.

Hence, it makes sense for Honda to offer new models to plug the gaps in its product portfolio and capture a larger market share. As per this strategy, one of the upcoming Honda Cars in India will be the Honda Amaze SUV.

While Honda is yet to make an official announcement of its plans of coming up with a new GSP platform-based SUV, development work on the Honda Amaze SUV has already commenced.

The Amaze-based SUV will launch in petrol and diesel engines and will go on sale in a price range of Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Other than this GSP-based SUV, the company also plans to launch the latest generation of the Civic and the CR-V SUV in the coming months.
