Hero To Launch 4 New 200-300 CC Bikes; Premium Dealerships Coming

Hero MotoCorp will reportedly launch as much as four new motorcycles in the next one and half year in the immensely growing entry-level premium segment. Addressing the requirements of customers in the 200-300 cc engine class, the upcoming models are said to be retailed through a newly established premium sales outlets.

It is part of the new strategy to create a premium brand image and to differentiate the upcoming bikes from volume-based mass-market commuters. The upmarket dealerships will also be responsible for selling a brand new line of merchandise and fashionable accessories that will be showcased at 2018 EICMA in Milan.

The largest producer of two wheelers in the country wants to initially focus on 200-250 cc segments and two of the upcoming motorcycles have already showed their faces. With the diligently priced Xtreme 200R reaching dealerships across India, the XPulse 200 adventure bike will arrive towards the end of this year or in early 2019.

The XPulse 200 will become the most affordable adv in the domestic market when it goes on sale at around Rs. 1 lakh (ex-showroom) and hopefully pave the way for more products in the space in the near future. Hero will scale up its attention towards 300 cc space gradually as a naked streetfighter could be waiting in the wings.

Ahead of the new premium assault, Hero has roped in Indian cricketing icon and current skipper Virat Kohli as its brand ambassador and his multimedia campaign will begin in the coming days. The sales of motorcycles in 200 cc and above categories have catapulted in recent years as 2017-18 accounted for multiple fold growth compared to previous terms.

The 200 cc platform Xtreme 200R is based on will likely spawn new models as well. Hero is still conversing over whether to have new premium dealerships as a completely owned unit or under franchise agreement. It will start with a limited number of outlets in select metros.
