German luxury auto manufacturer Audi showcased the Q2 at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show early last year. The SUV comes as the company’s youngest model in the Q series. The small SUV is expected to reach the Indian shores as well in early parts of next year, and once launched, it will give the customers taste of what the entry-level luxury vehicle from Audi looks like.
According to the German luxury auto manufacturer, the Q2 have been designed and developed to attract the first time buyers, who want an affordable luxury car in small budget. The Audi Q2 comes bearing the company’s latest design language. It is being manufactured at the company’s Ingolstadt plant in Germany.
Audi has become quite popular in India in recent past and the Q2 could be the right tool for grabbing more market share in a segment that is predicted to flourish due to the devoid of competition – as the BMW X2 is expected only after the launch of the Q2. While the German luxury automaker plans to launch its smallest SUV in the country, let us take a close look at the facts and figures of the Audi Q2 here:

Based on the A3’s platform, the Audi Q2 small crossover is expected to launch in the country as early as the beginning of next year. It was expected to be showcased at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo but Audi won’t be present at the event though, so there is no chance for it.

In the UK, Audi priced the Q2 between GBP 21,360 (Rs. 18.37 lakh) and GBP 32,150 (Rs. 27.65 lakh). In India expect the pricing to be around Rs. 28 lakhs to Rs. 35 lakh (ex-showroom). The car is likely to launch in three different grades which would be SE Grade, Sport Grade and S Line Grade. It will be one of the most affordable Audi vehicles in the country, once it gets launched.

Audi Q2 gets a range of powertrains with displacements ranging between 1.0-litre and 2.0-litre. The car gets six different engine options including both TFSI petrol and TDI diesel units. The petrol engines are – 116 PS 1.0 TFSI, 150 PS 1.4 TFSI and 190 PS 2.0 TFSI units. While the diesel engines on offer are – 116 PS 1.6 TDI, 150 PS 2.0 TDI and 190 PS 2.0 TDI units.
On the transmission front the options for Audi Q2 are a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed S-tronic dual clutch automatic gearbox. The Audi Q2 is being offered in both the Front Wheel Drive (FWD) and All Wheel Drive (AWD) configurations. We expect it to come strapped with the well-known 2.0-litre TDI diesel making 190 PS and 400 Nm, mated to seven-speed automatic ‘box.
The LED daytime running lights come exactly like the other modern Audi models. The front bumper looks muscular and aggressive with the wide air intake sporting honeycomb mesh grille. At both sides the bumper of the car sports faux air dams, which enhance the style. At the side profile of the Audi Q2, the car features sporty five spoke alloy wheels, side body cladding, roof spoiler, floating roof design.

Dimensionally speaking, the Audi Q2 compact luxury crossover measures 4,191 mm in length, 1,794 mm in width, 1,508 mm in height. The 2,601 mm of wheelbase ensures, sufficient space inside the cabin offering a comfortable journey experience. Also the Audi Q2 gets a 200 mm ground clearance, which ensures the car can take on the rough roads without hassle. The company also seems to be planning for a long wheelbase version of the Q2 for the Chinese market. Reports also suggest that, the same long wheelbase version might make it into Indian market as wellin the near future.
The interior of the Audi Q2 has been designed to give the occupants a sporty feel blended with the premium features Audi is known for offering. It comes donning a sporty black interior theme, while the features include multifunction steering wheel, Audi virtual cockpit with 12.3 inch TFT display. The centre console will sport a touchscreen infotainment system, while the 14 speaker sound system developed by Bang and Olufsen gives the occupants a true premium music experience.
The dashboard and the centre console gets silver accents, while the HVAC vents come round shaped. The steering wheel, seats and the upholstery inside the cabin would come wrapped in premium quality leather. The car gets sport seats, while in terms of space inside the cabin Audi Q2 doesn’t disappoint at all. Also with the reported long wheelbase the Indian customers might expect more spacious experience compared to the Europe spec model.
Expect the crossover to come offering several safety features like six airbags, darkness sensing headlamps, rear defogger, power window, seatbelt warning system, ABS, EBD, and many other safety measures as well.
In India, the Audi Q2 won’t have any direct rival once it launches in 2018. But the Mini Countryman will be a close competitor along with the recently launched Skoda Kodiaq and the Volkswagen Tiguan. Its direct rival BMW X2 is expected during the course of next year as well.
