Here, we have listed our pick of the top ten upcoming 7-seater vehicles in India, which are expected or confirmed to launch within a few years

In recent times, the demand for 7-seater vehicles has increased a lot in the Indian car market. People these days are looking for comfy family cars, which can seat an entire family and more in comfort, sometimes with room to spare for luggage! Automakers have noticed the trend, and thus, plenty of new 7-seater vehicles are currently in the works.

Here, we have listed ten upcoming 7-seater vehicles that are slated to launch in India, for which most of us are waiting with anticipation.

1. Jeep Meridian

Jeep Meridian was recently unveiled in India, and it is expected to go on sale in our market around June this year. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, which belts out 170 PS and 350 Nm, the same as Jeep Compass. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV will have the same cabin design as Compass, but with more luxury on offer.

2. New-gen Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra & Mahindra has been working on the next-generation Scorpio for years, and the new SUV is set to launch in India this year. It is expected to get two engine options – a 2.0L turbo-petrol unit and a 2.2L turbo-diesel unit – likely available with a choice between a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT. The new-gen version will be much more upmarket than the current-gen model, and it is expected to go on sale alongside the latter.

3. Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus

M&M is also expected to bring back TUV300 Plus in India in a facelifted avatar, likely under the name ‘Bolero Neo Plus’. Technically speaking, it will be a 9-seater SUV, with jump seats in the rear. The 2.2L turbo-diesel engine (120 PS/280 Nm) of the previous version is expected to return here, and it will likely be paired with a 5-speed MT only.

4. Maruti Ertiga facelift

Maruti Suzuki recently commenced bookings for the updated 2022 Ertiga in India, which is expected to launch towards the end of this month. The MPV is expected to feature a few aesthetic updates over the outgoing model, and it will be powered by a more-powerful 1.5L petrol engine (K15C, with 115 PS of peak power on tap).

5. Maruti XL6 facelift

Maruti XL6 is also set to be updated soon, and we expect it to feature changes to the interior as well as exterior design. The new model will also be powered by the brand’s new and powerful K15C petrol engine. We expect a few additional features on offer as well here.

6. Toyota Rumion

Toyota is expected to launch a rebadged version of Maruti Ertiga in India soon, under the name Rumion. Similar to other Toyota-badged Maruti cars, Toyota Rumion will have a similar design to the Maruti MPV, with the changes being limited to a new grille and restyled bumpers. Mechanically, there won’t be any differences between these two MPVs.

7. Three-row Nissan Magnite

Nissan is reportedly planning to add a three-row/7-seater version of Magnite to its lineup. The new model is expected to have the same dimensions as the existing 5-seater version, which should mean that the space won’t be too impressive in the last row. The current engine options – a 1.0L NA petrol unit (72 PS) and a 1.0L turbo-petrol unit (100 PS) – will likely be carried over to the 7-seater version.

8. Upcoming Maruti three-row SUV

Maruti Suzuki is working on plenty of new cars for the Indian market, one of which is a brand-new three-row SUV. This upcoming Hyundai Alcazar rival is expected to become the Indo-Japanese carmaker’s new flagship when it launches, likely in a few years. As per speculations, it would be powered by a 1.5L petrol engine, but that cannot be confirmed at the moment.

9. Upcoming Hyundai MPV

Hyundai has been working on a new entry-level MPV, rumoured to be named ‘Stargazer’. This new MPV has been spied a few times during testing on International roads, and it is expected to have its global debut this year, followed by its launch in India later. Hyundai Stargazer will likely share its architecture with Kia Carens, and perhaps the powertrain options as well.

Skoda is planning to expand its SUV lineup in India, and it is considering developing a three-row SUV for our market, among others. This new model will likely be underpinned by the VW group’s ‘MQB A0 IN’ platform, the same as Skoda Kushaq (and Volkswagen Taigun), and it will likely be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (150 PS).
