Here is a list of vehicles that hybrid buyers should consider in India over the next year or so as the trend has really caught on

India has turned out to be a great market for homegrown and global automakers alike. And after witnessing a consistently successful trajectory of acceptance and sales of hybrid vehicles, carmakers are lining up new hybrid vehicle launches. Here’s a list of 4 new cars that will be launched with hybrid powertrains:

1. Honda Midsize SUV

Honda plans to globally unveil its Creta rivaling mid-size SUV in June 2023. From the spy shots of the test mules, it is clear that the SUV is going to have a tall, imposing stance with a supposedly split headlight setup. This SUV will be based on the 5th gen City and the SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a strong hybrid powertrain similar to the Honda City e:HEV.

2. Maruti Suzuki MPV

Maruti Suzuki is planning to unveil its premium MPV which will be based on the Toyota Innova Hycross in H2 2023. The MPV will have a few cosmetic changes over the Hycross but the underpinnings and powertrains will be the same. It will house the same 2.0-litre petrol with strong hybrid tech and the regular 2.0-litre NA petrol engine. It will be mated with an e-CVT transmission as well. It’s expected that this MPV would slightly undercut the Hycross’ prices.

3. Toyota Corolla Cross

Another SUV which will be based on the Toyota Innova Hycross will be the 7-seater Toyota Corolla Cross. The Cross is already being sold in global markets and might have a slightly different design when it launches in India around a year’s time or in 2024. It will likely be powered by the same 2.0-litre NA petrol and the 2.0-litre strong hybrid petrol engine.

4. Toyota Fortuner Hybrid

The last car on this list is the next-generation Toyota Fortuner Hybrid which will make its global debut next year and the India launch will likely take place after that. With this launch, all of Toyota’s premium products in India will be hybridized as the full-size SUV could use a GD series diesel engine incorporated with a hybrid system. It will feature ADAS. It will be interesting to see if the regular diesel Fortuner will continue when the hybrid version is launched.
