BMW G310R

BMW Motorrad has been eyeing a big chunk in the Indian premium bike market for quite some time and one of the key products from the brand in that strategy is going to be the BMW G310R. This bike is already on sale in global markets and it is being built locally at the German brand’s Indian partner TVS Motors’ Hosur plant in Karnakata. The bike will be launched in India in second half of 2018 and thanks to the local production we assume it will be priced very aggressively.

The BMW G310R comes with a very sporty and aggressive naked stance. It is the German premium bike brand’s entry level model and upon arrival, this bike will compete with rivals like Bajaj Dominar 400 and KTM Duke 390. The G310R made its India debut at 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, where it garnered pretty good attention. It gets a very sculpted appearance visible from every angle.

Up front, the bike features a sharp and crafted looking delta shaped headlamp and there is a fully digital instrument cluster. The fuel tank comes with a very muscular appearance and it is equipped with a lowered position rider seat that offers comfortable riding experience along with great control over the machine. There is no split seat but, the pillion is stepped up and its narrow tail section sports split grab rails, LED taillight and a chunky exhaust.

BMW G310R runs on alloy wheels wrapped with meaty tyres. The bike gets disc brakes delivering stopping power at both wheels. There would be a 300 mm front disc brake and a 240 mm rear disc brake. It is not sure, if the India-spec model will get ABS as standard, but we can expect it to receive optional ABS. Suspension duty will be done by USD front forks and monoshock absorber at back. Interestingly, it shares the same engine as the TVS Apache RR 310S.

This 313 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission and it is capable of churning out 34 bhp of peak power at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. The India-spec G310R is expected to be capable of running at a top speed of 144 kmph and it would deliver 30 kmpl of fuel efficiency. Expect this bike to be priced between Rs. 2.30 lakh and Rs. 2.75 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) depending on the non-ABS and ABS equipped variants.

BMW G310 GS

BMW is clearly running to grab a significant chunk of the Indian premium bike market in coming days with its exciting products. The German brand is already preparing to introduce the G310R naked streetfighter model in the country market sometime in the second half of 2018. Alongside that, the brand will also launch its adventure tourer sibling G310 GS that has been already launched in several international markets.

The adventure tourer segment in Indian market is going to be a most happening category in coming months considering several models launching in this space. BMW G310 GS is going to be one important model among them. This bike is based on the same chassis as BMW G310R and it comes with a very aggressive stance. Like its sibling, this adventure tourer too is likely to be built locally at the Hosur plant of TVS.

In terms of design, BMW G310 GS takes inspiration from its bigger siblings BMW F700 GS and BMW R1200 GS. Apart from the chassis, the adventure tourer will share several components and engine with BMW G310R. It gets a sharp beak like front mudguard fitted to the front cowl. There is a sharp looking headlamps and a compact windshield as well. The fully digital instrument cluster adds zing to the bike.

BMW G310 GS sports a sculpted fuel tank adding masculinity to the bike. A low positioned rider seat is there offering great control over the machine and a comfortable riding stance as well. At the back, the narrow tail section of this bike features sporty split grab bar, LED taillight. Overall, the bike comes with a bold yet lean appearance. BMW Motorrad has designed it keeping the aerodynamic efficiency in mind.

Bajaj has made quite a sensation with its Avenger series in the Indian market. Upon launch, the Avenger series became the most affordable cruiser models in the country market. Before Bajaj, no other two-wheeler manufacturer dared to launch an 150cc cruiser. Now, the homegrown bikemaker is aiming to launch a bigger engine powered Avenger that would be christened as Avenger 400. Expect this bike to arrive in the country market sometime next year.

The Bajaj Avenger 400 will come powered by the same engine that does duty in the KTM Duke 390 and the Bajaj Dominar 400. Upon arrival, this bike will certainly be able to challenge the Royal Enfield Classic models. Expect the Bajaj Avenger 400 to arrive with a design that is identical to the current Avenger models. However, it is not sure, if Bajaj will launch this bike in both Street and Cruise variants.

Being a 400 cc cruiser, we might see the Avenger 400 coming equipped with disc brakes on both the wheels and there would be ABS on offer as well. However, the ABS would be available as an option, but not as standard feature. Expect the bike to come with improved quality materials compared to the current 150 cc and 220 cc Avengers. On the pricing front, this bike could arrive priced at around Rs. 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Suzuki Intruder 250

Inspired by the success of the Bajaj Avenger 150 models and demands from the local buyers, Suzuki has launched its Intruder 150 in India few weeks ago. The bike has received pretty good response and Suzuki has already started mulling the plan of launching a more powerful version of this bike that will be Intruder 250. While the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer is yet to reveal any details about the launch of this 250 cc cruiser, we can expect it to arrive here sometime in late 2018 or in early 2019.

The Suzuki Intruder 250 would arrive wearing a different and more retro-styled design compared to the Intruder 150 available in the domestic market. Upon arrival, this is going to challenge the Bajaj Avenger 220 models that have become quite successful in the country.

Expect the Suzuki Intruder 250 to receive a retro cruiser styling that will include round shaped headlamps with chrome finished bezel. A chunky and fat fuel tank will be there, while the instrument cluster will sport analog dials and a digital display in that. Following the typical cruiser styling, it would feature low positioned rider seat and raised handlebars. The pillion rider seat will come with a split appearance and there would be an LED taillight at the back. However, we may also see the bike wearing the same guise as its smaller sibling Intruder 150.

Expect the Suzuki Intruder 250 to come powered by a 248 cc twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine coupled with a 6-speed gearbox that will be able to churn out 32 bhp of peak power at 7,000 rpm and 24 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. The 180 kg weighing bike will be capable of running at a top speed of 150 kmph.

Suzuki has seen pretty good success with its Gixxer range in the highly competitive Indian motorcycle market. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer is now gearing up to bring the Gixxer 250 in the country market that is christened as GSX250R. Adding this model to the portfolio will certainly add zing to the brand’s lineup. Also, this will strengthen the two-wheeler major’s hold in the country market. Expect the bike to be produced locally in the country and that will enable Suzuki to sell it at competitive pricing.

This quarter-litre fully faired sportsbike made debut at the 2016 EICMA in Milan and grabbed everyone’s attention there. Suzuki has already launched it in several global markets including UK, where it is sold at around Rs. 3.5 lakh. Upon arrival in India, this bike will lock horns with rivals like Mahindra Mojo, KTM RC 200, Benelli TNT 25 and Honda CBR 250R.

Suzuki GSX 250R draws energy from the same engine that does duty in Suzuki Inazuma, which was available in Indian market at Rs. 3.10 lakh, but couldn’t etch desired sales result. However, now, the premium bikes are experiencing increasing demand and Suzuki GSX 250R is expected to be successful here. It draws design inspiration from the bigger siblings in Gixxer lineup.

It is still not confirmed whether Suzuki will bring it here as CKD units and assemble locally, or the production will be done here. The bike appears with a very sculpted and fully faired look. It gets sharp headlamp, fully digital instrument cluster and muscular fuel tank. The split seats, lowered rider seat, narrow tail section, LED taillight and chunky exhaust are the other design elements available in this model.

If we talk about the popular high performance bikes in India, Bajaj certainly deserves a distinctive place with its Pulsar range that has catapulted the brand to a new height. The Pulsar range comes with wide number of products ranging between 135 cc and 220 cc. Above 200 cc segment, the RS200 and AS200 have received pretty good response thanks to their sporty styling and of course the superior performance.

Now, the homegrown bike manufacturer is working on a new Pulsar that is to be christened as RS400. It will come as the flagship model in the Pulsar range. Honda is eyeing to grab the pole position in the Indian two-wheeler market by 2020 and it is betting big on the premium products alongside commuter models. The CBR range could prove to be a game changer for the brand and one of the upcoming models here is the CBR300R that will replace the ageing CBR250R.The bike has already replaced the 250 cc model in several global markets and it is expected to arrive in domestic market soon.

Interestingly, the production of Honda CBR150R and CBR250R has been suspended already and it is likely a move to make space for the upcoming CBR300R. Upon arrival, this bike is going to be a crucial product from the brand’s in the country’s quarter-litre bike segment. Upon arrival, the bike will lock horns with KTM RC390, Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and TVS Apache RR310.

The Benelli 400 Leoncino scrambler comes wearing an aggressive guise that blends retro and modern design element together. This bike has already found its way in couple of major markets in Asia and India is going to be the next in lineup. Hero MotoCorp is well known for grabbing attention with its interesting concept models and it has followed the trend at 2017 EICMA in Milan with XPulse adventure bike. As the bike appeared, it is basically a modified Impulse with a 250 cc engine borrowed from the Xtreme 200S, another much awaited model from the brand. The Hero XPulse adventure bike is likely to be launched in the country in August 2018.

Speaking about the Hero XPulse’s design, it comes with a rugged appearance. The bike gets round shaped LED headlamp with chrome bezel around it. There is a raised mudguard and a long windshield as well. This bike will feature a modern instrument cluster with analog and digital display. Hero MotoCorp grabbed everyone’s attention at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo with its Xtreme200S concept. Since then, this bike has been at the centre of discussion among the enthusiasts. While it has been already quite late from the brand in revealing the production model, finally the brand is going to unveil it on December 18, 2017. It would be launched here in March 2018. No wonder, this going to be a very important product upon arrival in the domestic market.

Upon its launch, the Hero Xtreme 200S will lock horns with rivals like TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and Yamaha FZ25. Expect the bike to be priced very competitively. Speaking about the bike’s design, we can expect the production model of Xtreme 200S to closely follow the concept that was displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo. The bike comes with an interesting and eye-catching styling that makes it look like a sporty commuter.
