The UM Commando Classic carbureted variant is priced almost six thousand rupees less than the fuel injected variant

According to the recent reports, UM has introduced the Carburetted variant of the Commando Classic Cruiser in India. Now, this surely is a surprising move from UM, keeping in mind the fact that while other two-wheeler makers of India are upgrading or launching their Fuel Injected variants UM has decided to do just the opposite.

UM Motorcycles has launched the fuel injected variant of the Commando Classic last year and it is currently priced at Rs. 2,00,503 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The newly launched Carburetted variant is priced at Rs 1.95 Lakhs making it almost six thousand rupees lesser than the FI variant.

Although UM has not listed the newly introduced variant of the Commando Classic on their official website yet, but  the dealer sources have confirmed the launch. You can all expect the Carbureted variant of the Cruiser to reach the dealerships soon while expect the deliveries to begin towards the end of this month.

The UM Commando Classic is powered by a 279cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled, engine which produces around 24.8 Bhp of peak power at 8500 RPM on the fuel injected variant, while the carbureted variant produces 1 bhp less power (23.8 Bhp) than the other variant. Both the variants produce 23 NM of peak torque at 7000 RPM and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

What is also surprising is the fact that UM still haven’t offered ABS with any of their motorcycles yet while this safety feature is getting mandatory for all the two-wheelers above 125 cc in India from April 2019 onward.

UM already faces some tough competition from Royal Enfield and now there is another popular entrant Jawa who has created quite an impact in this segment after their re-entry in India.

Although UM has launched the Carburetted variant at a much lower price than their existing offering but RE, as well as Jawa, offers their motorcycle at a much lower price in India which could cause some serious trouble for UM. It will be interesting to find out whether this newly launched variant will help improve some sales number or not for UM in the coming days.
