UM competes directly against the likes of the Jawa and the Royal Enfield motorcycles in India

UM India has sold just 12 units of their motorcycles in the month of March 2019. The American two-wheeler manufacturer’s Indian lineup currently consists of four motorcycles that include the Renegade Commando, Renegade Sport S, Renegade Commando Mojave and the Renegade Commando Classic.

According to the sales data on Autopunditz, UM sold only 8 units of the Commando cruiser in the month of March 2019 compared to 316 units sold during the same time last year. They managed to sell only 3 units of the Commando Classic and a single unit of the Commando Mojave (which were introduced recently) during the same month.

Unfortunately, UM sold 0 units of the Renegade sport in March 2019 compared to 220 units sold during the same period of time last year. The UM motorcycles rival directly against the likes of the Mahindra Mojo, Jawa and the Royal Enfield bikes in their price segment.  However, they are miles away from getting the attention of the customers compared to their rival that also affects their overall sales figures.

UM retails uniquely designed motorcycles that underpins the same platform. All their cruisers are powered by the same 279.5cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled, fuel-injected BS-IV compliant engine. This unit produces about 25.15 PS of peak power at 8500 rpm and 23 Nm of peak torque at 7000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

All of these cruisers relies on a 280 mm disc brake towards the front and a 130 mm drum brakes at the rear. Surprisingly, UM hasn’t introduced the mandatory ABS safety feature to any of their motorcycles yet.  The UM cruisers rely on 41mm telescopic front forks and twin hydraulic shock absorbers towards the back.

UM launched the Renegade Classic and the Renegade Commando Mojave on March 20th in India priced at Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs. 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. The UM Commando Classic gets Classic cruiser motorcycle elements like chrome, spoke wheels and a large windscreen. The Renegade Commando Mojave, on the other hand, gets an attractive Desert sand-coloured shade. Both the cruisers also get USB charging points and saddlebags as an optional extra.
