TVS Motor Company sold 1,420 units of the iQube electric scooter in the domestic market last month, recording a YoY sales growth of 362.5 per cent
Electric mobility is slowly gaining pace in India, especially in the two-wheeler space. While plenty of new startups have been dipping their toes in the electric two-wheeler market, only two mainstream manufacturers currently operate in this space. One is TVS, with its funky yet practical iQube electric scooter.
TVS iQube achieved a domestic sales figure of 1,420 units last month. In April 2021, a total of just 307 units of the electric scooter were sold in the Indian market, which translates to a gigantic sales growth of 362.5 per cent on a Year-on-Year (YoY) basis in April 2022.
On a Month-on-Month (MoM) basis, sales of TVS iQube have dropped by 21.1 per cent, compared to its March 2022 sales figure of 1,799 units. It should also be noted that the TVS electric scooter was available in just 33 cities across India until recently, but the manufacturer is currently working towards taking the tally up to 85 cities.
As the availability of TVS iQube across the country improves, we expect the sales numbers to grow consequently. Also, the electric scooter was updated for the Indian market a few days back, with two new variants added to the range, along with updates to the powertrain. Interestingly, the e-scooter is now more affordable than before.
The standard and ‘S’ variants of TVS iQube are available with a 3.04 kWh battery, which offers a range of up to 100 km. The top-spec ‘ST’ variant gets an even larger 4.56 kWh battery, which offers up to 145 km of range on a single charge. All variants are propelled by a single electric motor, rated at continuous power of 3 kW (peak power of 4.4 kW).
Currently, TVS iQube is priced at Rs. 98,564 for the standard variant, while the ‘S’ variant has a price tag of Rs. 1,08,690 (inclusive of FAME II subsidies). The price of the ‘ST’ variant is yet to be announced. Its competition in the Indian market includes Bajaj Chetak EV, Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, etc.
