After numerous categories of assessments from Indian auto industry experts and renowned jury of journalists, TVS’ long-awaited launch in 2016, the Apache 200 4V, has been crowned as the best bike in this calendar year. The 12th edition of Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY) witnessed Apache being evaluated against top-notch contenders like Hero Splendor iSmart 110, Bajaj V15, TVS Victor, RE Himalayan, Kawasaki Versys 650, Hero Achiever 150, Yamaha Saluto RX, Honda Navi, Benelli TNT 600i ABS, UM Renegade Commando and Sport S.
The evaluators filtered the 30 two-wheelers launched in 2016 and brought home 12 final nominees. The Apache, Himalayan, Navi, Versys 650 ABS and Victor were the worthy survivors. However, the Apache surpassed all odds and triumphed in the end ahead of the brilliant Kawasaki Versys 650 and the Royal Enfield Himalayan finishing third. The RTR 200 4V naked motorcycle was launched in India with the starting price of Rs. 89,000 (ex-showroom).
The Apache RTR 200 4V continues to go up against its age old rivals such as the Karizma and Pulsar 220. Since the Karizma is gone, Apache is yet again here to fight the range of Pulsars such as Pulsar 220, the re-launching Pulsar NS200 and AS 200. More details below for your complete understanding of this sporty bike:
The price start from Rs. 89,000 for the base variant carburetor variant and as ABS is standard on top-end FI model with Pirelli tyres we can see the price hovering around Rs. 1.15 lakh for this street fighter motorcycle. As for the middle FI variant with regular tyres, the asking price is Rs. 1.07 lakh (all ex-showroom prices).
At the rear, monoshock is introduced for the first time. The braking system should get improvement over the previous Apache. TVS Apache RTR 200 will come with 300 mm discs and twin-piston calipers at the front. The rear disc should be around 230 mm. Tyres seen on these bikes are TVS Tyres itself and Pirelli tyres are offered as option on the range-topper.
Aesthetically, TVS Apache RTR 200 is inspired from Draken X-21 concept showcased earlier at 2015 EICMA and its bodywork gets a large tank with vents inside them alongside beefier suspension and exhaust. A raised tail section, compact tail-lights have also been made available.
The motorcycle is a sporty model and isn’t mileage friendly but it should return a healthy 35-40 kmpl if sanely ridden. The bike is meeting BSIV emission norms as well given the dual port and large catalyzer seen on the bike.
