TVS Akula 310 With Carbon Fibre Fairing Could Be Produced

TVS considers Akula 310 limited edition with carbon fibre fairing for production

When TVS showcased the Akula 310 concept racing motorcycle at the Auto Expo 2016, we were all stunned to see the result of the TVS and BMW Motorrad marriage. The shark inspired design reminds us about the BMW G 310R, which it is based on. The display model at the Auto Expo had lots of carbon fibre body parts, which was surely an attempt to grab eyeballs, and which it did so successfully.

We never thought TVS will bring a production spec model with so much carbon fibre on it judging the pricing, but as it seems, we were wrong. Now we have learned, the overwhelming response TVS received at the Auto Expo with the Akula 310 has prompted the brand to think about the limited edition Akula 310 with carbon fibre fairing.

Although this is certainly a huge challenge for the home grown brand, as they don’t have any experience regarding carbon fibre. But here is where BMW Motorrad’s vast experience comes useful. BMW has learned a lot about carbon fibre with the development of i3 and i8 cars. No wonder that knowledge will benefit the TVS.

The Akula 310 TVS showcased at the Auto Expo was wearing full lightweight carbon fibre body fairing, a bolt on aluminium frame and a quick shift six speed gear box. It also had powerful heat management system, steering dampers, on-board gyro cameras, complete digital instrument console and ABS. TVS designers claimed that around 60 per cent of the concept’s elements would make it into the production model. The motorcycle is powered by a 313 cc liquid cooled FI engine mated to the six speed transmission, which produces 34 PS and 28 Nm of torque.

Expect the exotic motorcycle to get launched sometime around early 2017. It will lock horn with KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Yamaha R3.
