In June 2019, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) dispatched just 191 units of the Toyota Yaris, which is a whopping 94% down from 1,919 unit dispatched in June 2018

It has come to light that the Toyota Yaris will be soon taken off the shelves. The same is reflected by a low dealer dispatch of just 191 units last month. It may be noted here that the Yaris has been struggling to find enough buyers ever since it was first launched in April last year.

While the Toyota Yaris could still find a decent number of buyers in an initial couple of months of its launch, it has pretty much failed to get anywhere near the likes of Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna, the traditional segment-toppers in the C2-sedan section of the market.

While Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been trying hard to find more buyers for the rival of the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna, it’s quite apparent that the Yaris just can’t set the sales bell ringing. That said, the company has been offering huge discounts to lure the buyers, all of which seems to have gone in vain.

Last we checked, the Toyota Yaris was available with benefits up to Rs 1 lakh, which comprised free accessories worth Rs 42,000, an exchange bonus of Rs 30,000 and an insurance benefit of Rs 18,000. Some dealerships are known to have been providing an additional discount of Rs 30,000.

The Toyota Yaris has been on sale with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that offers a maximum power of 108 PS and a peak torque of 140 Nm. Transmission options include a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-step CVT with steering-mounted [addle shifters. The sedan is on sale in four trim options- J, G, V and VX.

The Toyota Yaris offers some serious safety kit, with all trims offering seven airbags, disc brake on all four wheels, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), ESP (Electronic Stability Control), Traction Control, HHA (Hill Hold Assist), reverse parking sensors and camera, proximity sensors, and ISOFIX child seat anchorage.

The Toyota Yaris is likely to be replaced by rebadged Maruti Ciaz soon in India. Last month, Toyota launched the rebadged Baleno as Glanza in India as a part of the Toyota-Suzuki partnership announced early this year and rebadged Ciaz, Ertiga also coming soon.
