Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG To Launch This Month In India

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG is expected to be introduced sometime this month in India with a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.10 km/kg

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) introduced the Urban Cruiser Hyryder a few months ago and it has been well received amongst customers. The midsize SUV competes against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, MG Astor, Tata Harrier, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Nissan Kicks, etc. It is one of the two SUVs in its segment to feature a strong hybrid powertrain.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder has a number of advantages over its rivals and it has plenty in common with the Grand Vitara. Courtesy of the strong hybrid tech, it comes with a dedicated EV mode and a claimed fuel economy of close to 28 kmpl. In addition, it is also available with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder K15C mild-hybrid petrol engine.

It produces a maximum power output of 103 PS and 136 Nm of peak torque. The range will now be expanded with the addition of a CNG version this month and the official bookings have begun. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG will become the company’s second CNG offering following the recent launch of the Glanza premium hatchback’s CNG variant.

It will appeal to customers wanting to purchase the Urban Cruiser Hyryder with high fuel economy but finding the strong hybrid model expensive. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG will also likely be introduced this month. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder K15C mild-hybrid petrol engine could develop around 88 bhp and 98.5 Nm in the CNG mode as in the Ertiga and XL6 CNG trims.

We do expect the prices to be around Rs. 75,000 more than the respective mild-hybrid variant. The powertrain will be paired with a five-speed manual transmission only and the ARAI certified fuel economy could stand at 26.10 km/kg.

Following the Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG, the Japanese auto major will more likely launch a compact crossover based on the upcoming Maruti Suzuki YTB while the deliveries of the Innova Hycross will begin by the middle of next month. The next generation Fortuner is expected to launch in the near future as well in India.
