Toyota Urban Cruiser has managed to score a 4-star adult safety rating and a 3-star child safety rating in the GNCAP crash test, outshining Maruti Vitara Brezza
Global NCAP has published its crash test safety report for Toyota Urban Cruiser, and the results are quite interesting. The little Toyota crossover managed to score a 4-star safety rating for adult occupants, scoring 13.52 out of 17 points. In terms of child occupant safety, the SUV scored a 3-star rating, with 36.68 points out of a total of 49.
The standard safety features list includes dual front airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front seat belt reminder, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, and ABS on all four wheels. As per the safety report, the driver had adequate protection for the chest and legs, and marginal protection for the thighs. The head and feet, however, had good protection.
The front passenger had good protection all around, save for the right thigh, which had marginal protection. For an 18-month-old child, seated facing the rear in a child seat, the SUV offered good protection to the head and chest. For a 3-year-old child, seating facing the front in a child seat, the protection was good for the head but only fair for the chest. The body shell integrity was rated as stable.
Toyota Urban Cruiser has managed to outmatch the safety score of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, which was awarded a 4-star adult safety rating (12.51 out of 17 points) and a 2-star child safety score (17.93 out of 49 points). However, it should be noted that the Maruti SUV was crash tested back in 2018, and in 2020, it was given a midlife update.
Also, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Toyota Urban Cruiser are scheduled to undergo a generation change soon. The new model is expected to be way safer than the current-gen models, thanks to the additional safety features on offer, like six airbags. We certainly hope for this to be the case.
In the Indian market, Toyota Urban Cruiser is priced from Rs. 8.87 lakh to Rs. 11.58 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It is powered by a 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated, inline-4 petrol engine, which belts out 105 PS and 138 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively.
