Toyota Rumion derives power from a 1.5L mild hybrid petrol engine, paired with a manual or an automatic transmission option; gets CNG version too
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has today announced the launch of the Rumion in the Indian market. It strengthens the brand’s MPV portfolio, which already comprises the Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and the recently launched new generation Vellfire. The Toyota Rumion has become the least expensive MPV from the Japanese carmaker as it carries a starting price of Rs. 10.29 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base trim.
The Toyota Rumion has been made available in six trims namely S MT, S AT, G MT, V MT, V AT and S MT (CNG). The S AT costs Rs. 11.89 lakh while the G MT and V MT are priced at Rs. 11.45 lakh and Rs. 12.18 lakh respectively. The range-topping Toyota Rumion V AT carries a sticker tag of Rs. 13.68 lakh and the single CNG variant, S MT, is priced at Rs. 11.24 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
The seven-seater is the rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the country’s best-selling MPV. In comparison, the Ertiga is retailed across nine trims and is priced between Rs. 8.64 lakh and Rs. 13.08 lakh (ex-showroom). It is around Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 60,000 more expensive. The India-spec Toyota Rumion is essentially the same as the model sold in South Africa since 2021.

It is based on the same lightweight Heartect platform and gets minor exterior updates to differentiate itself from its donor. The front fascia comprises a redesigned grille with chrome outline and black hexagonal inserts, triangular-shaped black trim around the fog lamps, a lower air intake, newly designed 15-inch alloy wheels, prominent pillar-mounted tail lamps, an upright tailgate, and so on.

The Toyota Rumion is sold in five colour schemes namely Spunky Blue, Rustic Brown, Iconic Grey, Cafe White and Enticing Silver. As for the performance, the familiar 1.5L four-cylinder K15C mild-hybrid petrol engine is utilised. It develops a maximum power output of 103 hp and 136.8 Nm of peak torque, and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed torque converter automatic unit.
It has a claimed fuel efficiency of 20.51 kmpl for MT, 20.11 kmpl for AT and 26.11 km/kg for the CNG variant. The equipment list comprises a touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a semi-digital instrument console, steering wheel with mounted controls, dual airbags as standard, hill hold assist, dual tone seat fabric, electronic stability control, reverse parking sensors and camera, etc.
The Toyota Rumion can be reserved at authorised dealerships present across India for an initial token of Rs. 11,000. The CNG variant kicks out 87.8 hp and 121.5 Nm in CNG mode.
