Toyota has been planning to get a strong hold in the Indian compact hatchback segment, as in this segment of Indian market the Japanese automaker is still weaker. They have already planned to launch the Daihatsu small cars in the country under their own brand name. Meanwhile Toyota India might launch the Passo as it recently launched in Japan, which is their most fuel efficient car available at present with 28 kmpl.
The new generation Toyota Passo compact hatchback will be available in two different variants, the standard model and the Moda variant which is more stylish. The car looks like the twin of the Daihatsu Sirion. Passo will come only in Front Wheel Drive (FWD) variants while AWD & FWD option is available in Japanese market.
New generation Toyota Passo gets a 1.0 litre 1KR-FE petrol engine under the hood mated to a standard CVT gearbox. The power output stands at 69 PS. Despite being a petrol car and an automatic variant the fuel economy on offer is certainly amazing. The FWD variants deliver 28 kmpl of fuel efficiency, while the AWD variant of Passo delivers 24.39 kmpl.
The Toyota Passo gets a stylish fascia with swept back headlamps, chrome garnished hexagonal front grille. The lower fascia gets a wide air intake with horizontal slats. The Moda variant will get a dual tone body, alloy wheels, blackened roof, side turning indicator integrated ORVMs, sharp character lines.
Toyota claims the new generation Passo gets 75 mm of additional leg space for the rear occupants. The chassis comes with stabilizers on both the front and rear suspensions, which make the car more stable even at higher speeds. The car also gets increased torsional rigidity. On the safety front the new Passo gets Smart Assist II collision avoidance system which includes brake assist system and lane departure warning. The Passo will be available in 12 different colours. In Japan the new Passo gets a price tag of 1150200 Yen for the standard FWD variant and the Moda variant comes with a price tag of 1431000 Yen.
