Toyota Liva Sportivo and Renault Scala base variant discontinued ahead of upcoming festive season
Companies cannot rule all segments. Let it be hot hatch or sedans, market leaders are hard to dethrone and will continue to do so for a long time. To keep the cash flowing and profits to come in, other manufacturers have no option to go ahead and take drastic plan of action. Renault is on a path where it wants to be the volume manufacturer in the market as it tends to launch value for money and unique products in the market.
Meanwhile, its other cars are Nissan based products, which were priced at a premium while offering even more. However, one of those products is the Scala. A potent sedan with quite a lot of space and features on-board, which comes with a lot of standard requirement on base variant has been discontinued.
Both petrol and diesel base variants are gone and Scala is left with three variants only. The petrol and diesel variants and prices are the RxL – Rs. 7,70,102, Diesel RxL – Rs. 8,71,840 and Diesel RxZ – Rs. 9,10,889. The Scala continues to come with 1.5 petrol and 1.5 diesel engines and make 99 BHP and 86 BHP respectively.
Coming to Toyota, The Liva Sportivo was launched in the year 2013 with a 1.5l petrol engine that made 99 BHP of power and was borrowed from the Etios sedan version. With bigger tyres slightly tuned suspension and fresher and sportier interior. However, despite a fantastic and powerful fun to drive characteristic and peppy engine, it failed to gather enthusiast.
There were a lot of options as well as the price was higher thanks to duties and premium over the standard Liva. We hope this is a sign of positiveness. May be Toyota could launch a proper hatchback with a powerful 1.2 l petrol engine in the works with the upcoming next generation Liva.
