Toyota Likely To Increase Prices Of Fortuner By Over Rs. 1.2 Lakh In January

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced price hike of up to 4 percent across its domestic range and it will come into effect from Jan 2019

As has been the case, majority of the carmakers will kick start the new year with substantial or moderate price hikes. Toyota has announced that it will increase the prices of its models in the domestic fleet by up to 4 percent citing the mounting manufacturing costs with continuous depreciation of the rupee.

Consequently, the Japanese auto major will likely raise the prices of Fortuner full-sized SUV by more than Rs. 1.2 lakh. Hot on the heels of the arrival of a brand new rival in Mahindra Alturas G4 that has been priced aggressively against the Fortuner, Toyota will be increasing prices of its segment-leading SUV. It currently costs around Rs. 27.3 lakh to Rs. 33 lakh (ex-showroom).

In India, the Fortuner premium SUV is offered in as much as seven variants with choice of 2WD and 4WD configurations namely 4×2 MT (p), 4×2 AT (p), 4×2 MT (d), 4×2 AT (d), 4×4 MT (P), 4×4 MT (d) and 4×4 AT (d). Toyota also sells the TRD Sportivo edition in India with enhanced bodykit on the outside and changes to the cabin.

As for the powertrain, the 2.8-litre four-cylinder GD series diesel unit is good enough to produce 177 PS of power at 3,400 rpm and 450 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,400 rpm. The six-speed manual transmission helps in returning claimed mileage of 14.24 kmpl and the MT spec variant produces 30 Nm less.

The six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is rated to give 12.9 kmpl mileage. Toyota provides either two- or four-wheel-drive system with the diesel version. Apart from that, the 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine pumps out 166 bhp at 5,200 rpm and 245 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.

It is connected to either a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic unit with paddle shifters with with 10.01 kmpl and 10.26 kmpl respectively. The Fortuner is retailed in seven paint schemes and sits on the IMV platform with good off-roading capabilities.

The interior boasts features such as coloured TFT LCD display, auto AC, cabin lamps, eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat nav, multi-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, wooden cabin trims on top-spec models and so on.
