Toyota Innova HyCross is expected to be launched in India in early 2023 and it will likely be powered by a hybrid petrol engine

Toyota is widely reported to unveil the new generation Innova globally in November 2022 and is expected to reach India in the early parts of next year. It could be christened the Innova HyCross in India as the name has been trademarked and in the international markets, Toyota could opt for the Innova Zenix nameplate.

The Japanese manufacturer could take the opportunity at the 2023 Auto Expo to debut the Innova HyCross but no official confirmation has been made yet. What we do know is that the upcoming MPV will ditch the existing body-on-frame construction in favour of a monocoque as the modular TNGA-B platform will make it a traditional front-wheel drive MPV.

The Toyota Innova HyCross will more likely have its design heavily influenced by the global Toyota MPVs and models such as Corolla Cross that are based on the same architecture. It is believed to be sold alongside the existing Innova Crysta that has been in the business for six and a half years in India and will be more upmarket as well.

A report that emerged from Southeast Asia indicates that the Innov Zenix will boast features such as a sunroof and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) based technologies. It will be available across five variants namely G Petrol, G Hybrid, V Petrol, V Hybrid and Q Hybrid in Indonesia and one of its major highlights will be its mooted hybrid powertrain.

The hybrid technology could work similar to the 1.5-litre hybrid mill found in the Urban Cruiser Hyryder but it could be heavily localised in India. It could either be a 1.8-litre or a 2.0-litre petrol engine chosen to function alongside an electric motor and a battery pack. It is in response to the stringent emission standards and to improve fuel economy.

The interior is also expected to be more premium with the presence of a new dashboard and centre console and a long list of features including a larger touchscreen infotainment system, an updated cluster, automatic climate control, wireless charger, multiple airbags, etc. It could also be more spacious than the existing Crysta.
