Maruti Baleno based Toyota Glanza derives power from BSVI petrol engines; offered with three years/one lakh km standard warranty

Toyota Kirloskar Motor introduced the Glanza premium hatchback in the Indian market today and it is the first vehicle to come out of Toyota-Suzuki partnership that deals with mutually beneficial agreements including car sharing. Maruti Suzuki will also be acting as the donor to Toyota by supplying vehicles like Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and Ertiga in the near future.

With a starting price of Rs. 7.21 lakh (ex-showroom), the Glanza has been launched in feature-packed G and V grades which is equivalent to Baleno Zeta and Alpha trims. Bookings for the Toyota Glanza have already begun for an initial token of Rs. 10,000 across dealerships and it competes against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo.

Toyota Glanza Price Ex-Showroom Price Delhi
Glanza V CVT Rs. 8,90,200
Glanza G CVT Rs. 8,29,900
Glanza V MT Rs. 7,58,200
G MT Dualjet Mild Hybrid Rs. 7,21,000

The Glanza is the rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki with minimalistic exterior changes. Except for the addition of Toyota and variant badges, and the redesigned front grille you would not be mistaken to not find any cosmetic updates. The Glanza uses the same powertrain lineup as the Baleno but the oil-burner won’t feature in the hatchback.

Both the petrol engines are BSVI compliant as the 1.2-litre K12C DualJet motor with mild hybrid technology is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 89 bhp and 113 Nm, and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The 1.2-litre VVT K12B four-cylinder unit develops 83 bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque.

Engine 1.2-litre K12C DualJet 1.2-litre K-Series
Power 89 bhp 83 bhp
Torque  113 Nm 115 Nm

It is connected to either a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic. Due to the lack of mechanical changes, the Toyota Glanza deliver identical fuel economy as the Baleno. The V MT is claimed to give 21.01 kmpl while the G MT 1.2L DualJet SHVS delivers 23.87 kmpl and the CVT-spec Glanza returns 19.56 kmpl.

The main differentiation between the Baleno and Glanza is the standard warranty offered on the latter at three years/one lakh km as opposed to two years/40,000 km on the Baleno.

The Glanza is available in 5 colours i.e Sportin Red, Enticing Silver, Insta Blue, Cafe White and Gaming Grey. Toyota has dispatched 2,142 units of the Glanza last month to its dealerships across the country and it will be interesting to see where the volume numbers stand in the coming months as the same kind of dispatches would result in it being the third best-selling model in the segment behind the donor Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20.

The Glanza can also be accessed with the Toyota Connect app, free for the first year, offering minimalistic information such as navigation, 24×7 concierge service, location-based roadside assistance and dealer locator.

The Suzuki Connect app in the Baleno is more helpful by giving real-time data such as vehicle tracking, geo-fencing, driver behaviour analysis, fuel economy report, trip details and live vehicle alerts. But it can only be had through three-year subscription plan by paying Rs. 10,000.
