Toyota officially announced that the Etios range sales crossed 4,00,000 milestone in India and the company took 8 years to achieve it. The Etios range includes a sedan, hatchback and Cross models as the first model was launched in December 2010. Even though Toyota couldn’t replicate the success of Innova, the Etios range is selling in good numbers.
In the last 6 months, the Liva sales increased by 10 per cent compared to the same time last year. Toyota introduced updates for both sedan and hatchback at regular intervals to keep the buzz around the models and it is also one of the reasons for consistent sales.
The company sold 2,47,068 units of Etios sedan till now and among them, 74,183 units are petrol and 1,72,795 units are diesel. The hatchback has sold a total of 1,59,249 units and among them, 56,176 units are petrol and 1,03,047 are diesel. The total number of Etios range sold in India is 4,06, 857.
The data also reveal that more than 67 per cent of buyers have opted for the diesel model, which is different from the competitors. The Etios is one of the preferred choices for fleet buyers as the sedan offers good ride quality along with excellent fuel efficiency and low service cost.
Toyota has always given importance for Safety and Etios range is the first model in its class to comes with dual airbags, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX child mounts, front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiter as standard on all variants. This has helped the model to get a four-star rating from Global NCAP.
The Etios range is powered by same 1.4 L diesel engine produces 67 bhp of power at 3,800 rpm and 170 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox. The hatchback is powered by smaller 1.2 L petrol engine with 79 hp and the 1.4 L engine on sedan puts out 88 hp. We can expect the company to introduce the next generation of Etios range in coming years.
