In an exclusive story, we can divulge that Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd (TKM) has reduced the price of its Camry Hybrid executive sedan by a huge amount. This has come as an aftermath of the Delhi government slashing excise duties from 24 per cent to 12.5 per cent under NEMMP (National Electric Mobility Mission Plan).
Maruti Suzuki announced the revised pricing for the Ciaz SHVS sedan and Ertiga SHVS yesterday and now Toyota has reacted by reducing Rs. 2,30,000 on the Camry Hybrid whilst the standard petrol variant won’t see any change in ex-showroom price. The regular Camry will continue to be sold at Rs. 30.28 lakh and the hybrid version will now be retailed at Rs. 30.90 lakh.
Since the Delhi-NCR diesel vehicle ban of above 2,000cc powered cars came into effect, the sales of the Camry Hybrid has improved as it’s eco-friendly. With the revised pricing due to the excise relaxation, there is very little to choose between the standard and the hybrid model which is more likely to substantially increase the sales of the latter.
Under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles) scheme devised by the Indian government earlier to encourage more eco-friendly vehicles from the two-wheeler and four-wheeler manufacturers, the Toyota Camry Hybrid received an incentive of Rs. 70,000.
Toyota launched the facelifted Camry hybrid for the India market last April alongside updating the existing petrol variant of the Camry. The updated Camry received an aggressive front fascia with a muscular bumper, vertical turn indicators on either side, chrome strip around re-positioned fog lamps and chrome accentuated airdam below the twin-slat prominent grille.
The well-defined headlamps were narrower at the edge and featured LED Daytime Running Lights. The distinctive Camry Hybrid gained blue inserts on the logo unlike the standard petrol version and the LED tail light unit was redesigned alongside a new set of wheels. On the inside, the facelifted Camry comes equipped with a new centre console with 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a revised instrument cluster.
Toyota offers the Camry with a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder DOHC petrol motor. For the standard variant, the engine produces a maximum power output of 181 PS at 6,000 rpm and 233 Nm of peak torque at 4,100 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed sequential shift automatic transmission driving the front wheels while helping to achieve a rated mileage of 12.98 kmpl.
The 2AR-FXE petrol mill has a 143 PS electric motor that elevates the total output to 205 PS. It is linked with a six-speed electronically controlled CVT gearbox to return a claimed fuel economy of 19.16 kmpl.
