The compact design of the small hatchback, decent space inside the cabin, decent power and torque output, practically and affordability have helped it to become an interesting choice for the customer who commutes in and around city regularly. Currently available with a manual gearbox, the Datsun Redi-Go is ready to come with a new engine and an AMT.

The Datsun Redi-Go is presently available with a 0.8-litre SCe petrol engine that does duty in the Renault Kwid. Interestingly, the Redi-Go is based on the Renault Kwid platform. The Datsun hatchback is ready to receive a 1.0-litre SCe petrol engine that is available in the upper variants of the Kwid. The AMT gearbox will come paired with this 1.0-litre engine only.

As the 0.8-litre SCe petrol engine in the Redi-Go churns out same power and torque output like the Renault Kwid, the 1.0-litre engine with AMT too is expected to generate same power and torque output as the Kwid 1.0L. The Renault Kwid 1.0-litre variant with AMT gearbox is capable of churning out 67 bhp of peak power at 5,500 rpm and 91 Nm of peak torque at 4,250 rpm. It returns 24.04 kmpl of fuel efficiency and expect the Datsun Redi-Go 1.0L AMT too to deliver same fuel efficiency.

In terms of design, the Datsun Redi-Go AMT will come same as the current 0.8-litre variant. It will arrive with the same compact and practical design. Up front, it will get sharp headlamps and hexagonal black mesh incorporating front grille with chrome garnished frame. Inside the cabin, we can expect the Datsun hatchback to introduce a touchscreen infotainment system just like the top variants of Kwid. This will certainly enhance the appeal of the car, while the competitive and affordable pricing will make it a very desirable car to many customers.

Hyundai EON Superior AMT

Hyundai is preparing to launch the Eon facelift to take the entry level hatchback’s game up against tough rivalry. While the significant design change is going to be an important part of the Hyundai Eon facelift, the AMT gearbox will be the next big thing from the hatchback. The South Korean auto major has already cleared its intention to introduce the dual-pedal technology across its entire range by 2020 and offering AMT gearbox with the Hyundai Eon is just a part of that strategy.

The Hyundai is available in two different petrol engine options that include a 0.8-litre unit and a 1.0-luitre unit as well. The 814 cc SOHC engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and it kicks out 55 bhp of peak power at 5,500 rpm and 75 Nm of peak torque 4,000 rpm and it delivers 21.1 kmpl of fuel efficiency. On the other hand, the 1.0-litre Kappa petrol engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and it churns out 68 bhp of peak power at 6,200 rpm and 94 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm.

The AMT gearbox is expected to be available only on the 1.0-litre variant and it would generate same power and torque output. Also, the fuel efficiency would remain unchanged, as the current 1.0L model returns 20.3 kmpl. This way, the Hyundai Eon will be able to challenge the Renault Kwid AMT and the upcoming Datsun Redi-Go AMT as well. So far, with the introduction of AMT gearbox, the car will become more appealing for the entry level customers.

Speaking about the design, the Hyundai Eon facelift would receive a new large and modern front grille in line of the Korean auto major’s latest models. Also, the headlamps could come with revised appearance incorporating LED daytime running lights. It would come with a refreshed multi-function steering wheel, updated instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system at the centre console. The seat and upholstery materials are likely to come of improved quality, but space inside the cabin would remain identical as dimensional changes are unlikely.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT

Maruti Suzuki Swift is one of the most popular and bestselling hatchbacks in the country and globally. Now, the Indo-Japanese automaker is gearing to launch the new generation Swift in the country that is likely to arrive in the country sometime during mid 2018. The new generation Swift is aesthetically much more stylish compared to the current model. It appears sportier and more modern as well.

Another very interesting feature of the next-generation model is going to be the Magneti Marelli sourced AMT gearbox. This is the same AMT that does duty in the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire compact sedan. In the sub-four meter compact sedan, the AMT or AGS, as the automaker dubs it, is available with diesel engine. Speaking about the Swift hatchback, it would arrive with similar set up like the AMT paired with diesel engine.

[adinserter block=”2″]

The biggest benefit of the AMT or AGS is that this gearbox delivers the convenience and comfortable driving experience of the dual-pedal technology, but doesn’t drink fuel like the pure automatic gearbox. This way, the AMT offers value for money. However, the Swift AMT would come powered by the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine that is capable of churning out 74 bhp of peak power and 190 Nm of peak torque.

In terms of design, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Swift will come pretty interesting compared to the current model. It will get a completely new front fascia thanks to sharper and new headlamps with projector units and integrated LED daytime running lights, a new larger black hexagonal front grille and updated front bumper. At the side profile, the hatchback appears with sporty alloy wheels, sharper character lines, turn indicator integrated ORVMs. The biggest change is going to be the C pillar.
