Top Ten SUVs of January 2016 in India, Hyundai Creta Tops the List

Hyundai Creta Test Drive Review Road Test-27

In the top ten SUVs of January 2016, Creta becomes market leader while five Mahindra including recently launched entry level SUV ‘KUV100‘ gets into the list

The top ten selling SUVs monthly list of January 2016 saw a major shakeup in the pecking order as Hyundai Creta dethroned the long-standing Mahindra Bolero from the top position by selling 6,589 units. Mahindra and Mahindra SUVs have continued their good run of form in the sales chart as ever but the overwhelming response the South Korean SUV has received since launching last June led it to climb the ranks to the sharp end of the chart.

This has particularly been driven by the success of the automatic transmission equipped Creta and its popularity doesn’t appear to be fading away any soon as it comprises alluring looks, desirable equipment level and a well-serving engine up. Hyundai has watched the progression of Creta AT very closely and thus, as we reported, it will be injecting automatic variants in different segments during the course of this year.

Although Bolero endured a dominating 2015 sales, it could only finish closely behind the Creta with 6,160 units of sale – at more than 1,000 units drop compared to the previous month. The country’s largest SUV manufacturer have had another three products up in the top five with Scorpio slotting in third by getting 4,013 units retailed ahead of TUV300 and KUV100.

The two recent launches from M & M have evidently been a huge hit among SUV buyers as TUV300 registered January sales figure of 3,816 units which is 800 more than its main challenger Ford EcoSport. Moreover, since its market launch in December, it has maintained its consistency by cumulatively averaging 4,000 units every month.

Mahindra KUV100 Review 1

Coming in at fifth is the first launch of Mahindra in 2016, the KUV100 with 3,413 units sold. The captivating micro SUV has no competition as it so far reaped benefits of having the head-start as Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Tata Nexon are more likely scheduled to appear several months later since debuting at the Auto Expo 2016. No stalemate in the KUV100’s progression is expected in the coming months as the ground-breaking micro SUV is set to define the brand once again, much like Bolero had succeeded in doing so years ago.

The second half of the table has Ford EcoSport at sixth position with 3,047 units. Despite losing out to the TUV300, the EcoSport’s sales surged by twice the amount to what it had achieved in December 2015. Next up is the flagship Mahindra XUV500 premium SUV which wrapped up a retail of 2,493 units last month.

At a far more domineering fashion, the sales numbers of XUV500 prove that Renault should react quickly to bring in the facelifted and AMT versions of the Duster showcased at the motor show last week. Behind the Renualt Duster with 1,349 units, has been Toyota Fortuner which leads its segment with 825 units. With the new generation model slated to arrive soon, its fortunes could only improve. Rounding out the top 10 SUV sales chart for the opening month of 2016 has been the Tata Safari by recording a sale of 575 units.
