Safety is one of the most important priorities for Indian customers right now. Most of the manufacturers have started providing airbags and ABS system even in base variants at least as an option.
From next year onwards, all cars launched in India must have dual airbags and ABS as standard features according to the new law passed by the government. In this article, we are featuring top budget cars with most airbags under 10 lakh.
1. Toyota Yaris (7 Airbags)
Toyota is one of the first manufacturers who had introduced dual airbags on all models. The Japanese manufacturer introduced its first C-segment sedan Yaris in May 2018 and it is the first model in its segment to feature 7 airbags as standard option as its competitors are offering only 6 airbags even in its top end variant.
Along with 7 airbags, Toyota has also given ABS with EBD, brake assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors and engine immobilizer also standard on all variants. The Yaris is available in four variants – J, G, V and VX variants. In India Toyota offers Yaris with petrol engine only. The 1.5 L petrol engine produces 108 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque. 2. Ford EcoSport (6 Airbags)
Ford is one of the manufacturers which gives so much importance for safety over comfort features. This list has four Ford models which show the manufacturer’s commitment towards safety. The American brand recently introduced a facelift version of EcoSport and the company is offering front, side and curtain airbags on the top end variant.
The EcoSport get ABS with EBD and dual front airbags as standard across the range. Ford EcoSport is powered by diesel and an all new dragon series petrol engine. The 1.5 L petrol engine produces 120 hp and the diesel engine produces 99 hp. These engines are mated to 6 speed manual or automatic transmission. 3. Hyundai i20 Active (6 Airbags)
The i20 Active is the jacked up crossover version of the Elite i20. Hyundai has given lots of importance for safety and they have given six airbags for the i20 Active range topping variant which also comes with ABS with EBD, impact sensing doors, seat belt warning and more. Hyundai is also offering dual airbags as standard option.
The i20 Active is powered by 1.2 L Kappa engine with 83 PS of power and 115 NM of torque and the 1.4 L diesel engine puts out 90 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque. The petrol engine is mated to 5 speed manual and diesel get the 6 speed manual gearbox. Hyundai Elite i20 with 6 airbags is priced at Rs. 8.75 Lakh (Ex-Showroom).
4.Hyundai Elite i20
Hyundai recently introduced Elite i20 facelift in India. Ever since its introduction in India with the first generation model, the i20 is one of the hatchbacks which offered lots of safety features as it scored 5 stars on EURO NCAP safety rating. The Indian version of Elite i20 comes with 6 six airbags on the top end variant and dual airbag is standard on all other variants.
The top end variant of Elite i20 also comes with ABS with EBD, ISOFIX points, engine immobiliser and more. Like the i20 Active, Hyundai is offering same 1.2 L petrol and 1.4 L diesel engine with same gearbox option on the Elite i20. 5. Ford Aspire
Ford Aspire is the sedan variant of Figo hatchback. One of the important USPs for Aspire since its launch is its safety features as the Aspire is only model in its segment to offer 6 airbags on the top end variant while its competitors offer only dual airbags and it is standard on all Aspire variants also.
Ford is also offering ABS with EBD with Aspire which makes it one of the safest compact sedan in India. The Aspire is powered by 1.2 L petrol engine producing 87 hp of power and 112 Nm of torque. Ford Freestyle is basically jacked up crossover version of Figo hatchback. The Freestyle follows the trend of Figo and Aspire models which also come with 6 airbags. Ford has also introduced new Active Rollover Prevention (ARP) with the Freestyle.
The Freestyle also comes with ABS with EBD, traction control system and electronic stability programme. Ford Freestyle comes with new 1.0 L 3 cylinder engine producing 96 PS of power and 120 Nm of torque. The 1.5 L diesel engine produces 99 hp and 215 Nm of torque. 7. Ford Figo
Ford Figo is one of the most popular hatchbacks in the country. The second generation Figo which was introduced a few years ago comes with 6 airbags and it is the cheapest hatchback available in the country to get 6 airbags. Like its sedan sibling, Safety is the biggest USP of Figo hatchback.
The Figo also gets ABS with EBD which is important for safe braking. Ford Figo is powered by the same 1.2 L petrol and 1.5 L diesel engine from the Aspire.
