In the Indian market, a lot of new EVs are expected to launch within the next few years, from different carmakers. Among these numerous upcoming electric cars, there are a few that have us extremely excited for their arrival.
Listed below is our pick of the top upcoming electric cars in the Indian market, which are expected to launch within a few years.
1. Tata Curvv
Tata Curvv EV is perhaps the most exciting upcoming electric car in India. It was unveiled in concept form earlier this month as a coupe-style SUV, and it is undoubtedly quite attractive. Its final production version will likely arrive in 2024, and it is expected to have a driving range of around 500 km.
2. Tata Sierra EV
At the 2020 Auto Expo, Tata Motors had showcased the ‘Sierra EV’ concept. It was essentially an all-electric reimagining of the original Tata Sierra, and it is reportedly in development currently, expected to launch in the next few years.
3. Tata Altroz EV
Tata Altroz EV was also showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, and it is expected to launch in India soon, likely this year. The electric hatchback would fit between Tigor EV and Nexon EV in the brand’s electric vehicle lineup, but the technical specifications are a complete mystery right now.
4. Tata Nexon EV long-range
Tata Nexon EV is set to receive an update very soon. The electric SUV will get a few additional features, like auto-dimming IRVM, ventilated front seats, cruise control, etc. A larger battery option (long-range version) will also be added to the range, expectedly a 40 kWh battery pack. The current 30.2 kWh battery option will continue to be on sale.
5. Tata Tigor EV long-range
Similar to Nexon EV, Tata Tigor EV will also get a larger battery option (long-range version), expected to be added to the sedan’s range soon. A few new features and equipment could be added as well here.
6. Kia EV6
Kia will enter the EV space in the Indian car market this year with EV6. Bookings for Kia EV6 will commence in May 2022, with deliveries slated to commence in August 2022. It will be introduced as a CBU import, at least initially, with a sky-high price tag.
7. Hyundai Ioniq 5
Hyundai has confirmed that it will launch Ioniq 5 in India this year. Similar to Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 will arrive via the CBU import route, and it will be launched at an extremely high price.
8. Hyundai Kona EV facelift
Hyundai will also launch the facelifted Kona EV in India soon, likely later this year. The updated version will get a few cosmetic changes, along with some additional features and equipment. The battery and motor specifications are expected to remain unchanged over the current version.
9. Mahindra Born EVs
Mahindra & Mahindra will be showcasing three EV concepts in July this year. These three concept cars will consist of a compact electric SUV, a midsize electric SUV, and a large coupe-style electric SUV, which will go into production in the coming years. The specs are a mystery, but the numbers are expected to be impressive.
