From Mahindra Scorpio-N to the Maruti Grand Vitara, many new SUVs made their Indian debut this year and boast a strong and feature-rich package for the buyers

SUVs are in strong demand in the market right now and not only boast a strong package for the buyers but in addition to this, also offer better practicality and road presence when compared to the hatchbacks and sedans being sold at a similar price point. Considering the strong demand, a number of manufacturers expanded their SUV portfolio in the country and here are the top 5 SUVs launched this year in India.

1. Maruti Grand Vitara:

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara was launched in the country to take on the rivals like the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos in the country and not only offers a strong design language but in addition to this, also offer a comfortable and practical cabin along with refined and fuel-efficient engine options. It is offered with two engine options and is one of the most affordable strong-hybrid cars in the country.

2. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder:

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder was the second hybrid midsize SUV to make its Indian debut this year and challenges the rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. The UC Hyryder shares its underpinnings with the Grand Vitara and is offered with two petrol engine options – 1.5L K15C mild hybrid petrol and 1.5L TNGA strong-hybrid petrol engine.

3. Jeep Meridian:

Launched at a starting price of Rs 29.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new Jeep Meridian is currently one of the most premium and powerful 7-seater SUVs in the country. It not only challenges the rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq but also gives stiff competition to the Toyota Fortuner in India. The SUV is offered with a 2.0L diesel engine option that churns out a peak power and torque output of 170 hp and 350 Nm respectively.

4. Hyundai Venue:

The new facelift iteration of the Venue was launched in the country in June earlier this year and is now offered with an updated design, new features, and other subtle updates that help it give strong competition to the rivals like the Kia Sonet and Maruti Brezza in the Indian market. It continues to be offered with three engine options and is priced from Rs 7.53 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base variant in the market.

5. Mahindra Scorpio N:

The new Mahindra Scorpio N was one of the most talked about SUVs in the country this year and made its Indian debut at a starting price of Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This new iteration of the Scorpio boasts a long list of updates and improvements over the last-gen model and currently has an extremely strong demand in the market. For those wondering, it is offered with two engine options – 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel.
